What frustrates you most about marketing gurus?
There’s a lot of people out there who will claim they can help you market and sell your offers in exchange for your hard earned money, but in reality they have little or no experience in matter beyond a personal interest in the topic and you letting them hold your cash. On the other hand… There are the people who are really good at helping you market and sell your offers, but in the interest of scale, they over-price, over-productize to the point where only a few people in very specific situations will actually benefit from the offer. On the face it, that’s a good thing, but the problem is their sales people will sell to anyone with a credit card and pulse, and too many people end up paying way too much for a program that was never a good fit for them in the first place. And then there’s everything else in between. But I want to do the opposite of that here. So tell me, what frustrates you most about marketing and sales guru’s online?

I think it’s getting harder to differentiate and see who actually has expertise and worked with clients and really understands the work they’re selling over someone who managed to “just” grow their own account and now selling success. (No offense - I’m sure some people have great strategies but for me it’s getting harder and harder to filter that out) So I really appreciate honesty and seeing real examples (hopefully real 🤣)
So far I've manually removed about 40 people from the group.
Why? Mostly non-participation. Recently, I removed ten. Twenty more joined. And I've just removed ten more. I only tell you this to say, that for now, joining the community is free, because my goal is to build an active and mutually beneficial group for all who join. Folks who join now for free can stay free forever. But I will, in the near future, switch the group to paid. So the price to pay now is really just participation. And not in a forced way. Not like: participate or you’re off the island. But just like… participate, or you’re off the island… Know what I mean? That's the only way it's fun and useful for everyone. All to say, I did recently institute a rule where you must introduce yourself or be removed, which means technically a lot of people are slated for removal at this point. It will take me a while to get through the list. But I will get through it. And when I do, I’ll start talking about how we’ll switch over to the paid model which will include those affiliate link things. I was thinking I’d even replace my own link for promoting the community with one of your affiliate links! Say like, whoever tops the leaderboard each month I’ll use their affiliate link to promote the community for the next month? That would be cool… Let me know what you think 👇

Cute kitty - I think it’s a great idea to create more of an active community rather than just people who join and never take part.
Reintroduction
Hi, everyone. I have an award-winning publishing company and have been in business for almost 3 years. The first two years, I made 6 figures. I did it all organically on LinkedIn and honestly, I'm tired. I've been resting these past few months because I needed to rethink my offer and channel. I got sold on Threads primarily because of the community piece and I grew my followers from 362 to 714 during 4/4 to 5/4. Everyday on Threads, I saw my target audience ask for and show frustration for the every thing I provide. I joined this group because I like Kevin's approach and writing style and I'm looking to get back to work.

Thank you for honestly sharing this. I can totally understand that exhaustion. I hope with Threads you find some of that lightness again.
The Nature of Marketing has a new look!
I’ve recently changed the about page banner. And I’ve just now changed the group icon to match. Not because the old icon was bad (no, in fact it’s really good imo). But I also use it as the favicon for my main site and daily email newsletter. So it’s confusing to me to navigate sometimes. So I made it easier by making the icons different. Just mentioning it so folks don’t get lost. What branding blunders have you encountered recently that you’ve struggled to find suitable solutions for early on?

@Kevin Hood lol I would have never thought it’d a coyote 😅 I think you should go for it and create a coyote
I reviewed all my Threads content last month (and here’s what I found)
Every week I run a Hall of Fame session where I pull the top 10% of my Threads content, review the data, and then work with Notion AI to analyze the patterns. This week I asked: "What are the 5 most important things my community should learn from the last month of content?" Here’s what we found: 1. Affinity content is the fastest path to followers and subscribers. 2. Over-stacking qualifiers kills your reach. 3. Storytelling wins with universal tension. 4. Educational content only converts when you teach "insights". 5. Your CTAs need to be congruent with your post content. I’ll walk you through it live inside my Notion writing database. It’s worth 10 minutes of your time if you’re serious about growing on threads this week.

@Kevin Hood I made a project in Claude where I have the MD file from the writing assistant you created uploaded. And I also added the script where it defines the guidance, storytelling, and character pace. And I've already tried to also add some of the patterns you shared from successful posts as examples. My Notion set up is very basic. I basically just copy and paste the stuff in there and then edit in Notion, but I haven't used the databases really or anything.

I use Notion for everything: my to-do list, my client work, all things which have to do with my business.Yes, I have connected Cloud and Notion already, but haven't really used that feature yet.
