Social Media vs. Skool
You may have heard that I deactivated some of my social media accounts. I've kept... - YouTube for retargeting - Facebook for Meta Ads But everything else I am taking a break from. Call is midlife brain fog, or raising cortisol levels, but it just doesn't give me joy anymore. Plus, I receive much more organic growth from Skool in our communities, than I have from the 7 years I've been on social media for business. Check out these facts between Social Media vs. Skool. (see infographic below) You've got to show up somewhere for your business...why not where you can see the pay-back and it gives you joy. What's your plan in 2026? PS - originally adapted from a post Calvin Hollywood post on Skoolers (but with a Brenda/Midlife spin)

@Jennifer R. Cohen, Ph.D thank you! Yes! I’ve been protecting my energy. It’s precious to me 😊
I'm stirring the pot on Skoolers
What do you think of a 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗸𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿 so you can see all the events in every community you are a member in one place? - now you can use 𝗕𝗢𝗟𝗗 font in your posts and comments - see all your membership calendars with events - voice text in the chat!! - get the Skool cat anytime - see unread messages in the community thread - and a bunch more things... We shouldn't think of this as competition. We all want more members in our calls. Therefore, I recommend you also recommend this extension to your members. The extension also offers some additional features (bookmarks, focus mode, stats, etc.). Check it out here skool-extensions.com Will you use it?

@Sandy Torbet Yes it's both a chrome extension and a website. :)

@Sandy Torbet it’s an amazing tool!
Youtube
Who is using Youtube to drive traffic to their community? If so, how many long form videos are you recording? I am asking because I also have a substack (non AI related but I do some articles on AI) I dont want to overwhelm myself and trying to figure out the best way for me to add Youtube in to my growth strategy.

I use YouTube. I used to teach YouTube growth strategy but have changed niches. I just started posting videos again from a long break. Outside of the Skool network I think it's the best platform for traffic to communities because people are really invested and warmed up before they join. Many people spend hours watching videos and feel like they know you when they join your community. It's a great match. 😊 Usually the recommendation is 1 video a week if you can manage it.
Do you have a community mascot?
Meet Mr. Mullet Tortoise 🐢 I didn’t plan to have a community mascot… but somehow he showed up and now he’s doing important work 😂 What started as something fun turned into something more. Mr. Mullet Tortoise represents how I believe businesses should be built. Slow, steady, intentional… with room to actually enjoy the process. Business up front, party in the back. He’s a reminder that growth doesn’t have to be rushed or exhausting to work. You can move at your own pace, figure things out as you go, and still get real results. It’s even turned into a kind of language. “I’m in tortoise mode this month” or “That launch had mullet energy.” Simple, but it captures a lot. Not just for fun, but a cue for how we approach growth. Build real systems. Move sustainably. Have some fun along the way. I’m curious… do you have something like this in your community? A mascot, phrase, or inside “language” that represents your culture? 🐢

@Heather Boers cool! 😊
Can we talk about why you keep switching things?
Let’s be real for a second. You’re trying things, showing up, posting, tweaking… but it still feels like nothing is really clicking. So you switch. New platform. New strategy. New idea. And for a moment it feels productive, like maybe this is the thing. But then the same thing happens again… no real traction, no consistency, no momentum. Here’s what’s actually going on. It’s not that things aren’t working. It’s that nothing is being given enough time to work. You’re not building a machine, you’re constantly restarting one. A strategy needs time. You don’t try it, watch it for a minute, then start swapping tactics and expect results. But that’s exactly what happens with most solopreneurs. You interrupt the process before it ever has a chance to produce anything meaningful. The shift is simple, but not always easy. 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝘁𝗿𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀. Something repeatable. Something connected. Something you can stick with long enough to get real feedback. Because once you do that, everything changes. You start getting data. You see patterns. You notice what’s working and what’s not. Now you’re making decisions based on evidence instead of emotion. But if you keep switching too fast, everything feels like it’s failing… when really, nothing had the chance to succeed. So before you pivot again, ask yourself this. Have I actually built a system? Or have I just been testing disconnected ideas? If the usual way isn’t working, it might not be about doing more. It might just be time to build repeatable systems. Curious… what’s one thing you’ve switched too quickly that you probably didn’t give enough time to actually work?
