Learning to Prompt Well: Skip the Generators, Master the Fundamentals
One of the most common questions I get is: "What's the best prompt generator?" My answer might surprise you: I rarely use prompt generators. Why? Because the best prompt iteration happens inside the AI tools themselves. When you're working with Claude, ChatGPT, or any modern AI, you can refine your prompts in real-time based on the outputs you're getting. You see what works, what doesn't, and you iterate immediately. It's faster, more contextual, and teaches you to think like the AI thinks. The Real Skill: Understanding Prompt Architecture Great prompting isn't about finding the "perfect template" - it's about understanding how to structure your requests for maximum clarity and effectiveness: - Context first: Give the AI the background it needs - Role assignment: Tell it what expert perspective to take - Specific outcomes: Be crystal clear about what you want - Constraints: Include what you DON'T want - Examples: Show, don't just tell - But Here's a Cool Free Resource While I don't rely on prompt generators, there's one tool worth checking out to see how optimal prompts are structured: https://shumerprompt.com/ Browse through their examples not to copy-paste, but to study the patterns. Notice how the best prompts are structured, what elements they include, and how they guide the AI toward specific outcomes. My Approach: Conversational Iteration Instead of crafting the "perfect" prompt upfront, I: 1. Start with a clear but simple request 2. Analyze the AI's response for gaps or misunderstandings 3. Refine my next prompt based on what I learned 4. Build context and specificity with each exchange 5. Save the winning patterns for future use 6. This approach has helped me generate hundreds of thousands of impressions on LinkedIn, create client deliverables for Fortune 500 companies, and build AI-powered business processes. The Bottom Line Don't get trapped thinking you need the "perfect prompt." Get comfortable having a conversation with AI, iterating as you go, and building your understanding of what works through practice.

Love that approach! these examples will be super handy. I do overthink prompts a bit but I’m slowly finding my flow for different formats
Welcome to The Build Lab—Your Hub for AI and Automation!
I'm Dan McCoy—former healthcare CEO turned AI strategist. I've helped organizations save millions through smart AI and automation strategies, and now I want to help you build the same capabilities. This isn't another theory-heavy AI group. This is where we roll up our sleeves and actually build things with AI. What you'll find here: 📚 The Classroom → Start with "AI Automation Fundamentals" for AI tools and workflows that deliver results in days, not months 🔬 Private Practicum Forum → Exclusive space for our graduate students from the AI and automation practicum program. (Invitation only, but everyone can engage in the broader community discussions) 🎯 Weekly Deep Dives → I'll share the exact AI prompts, automation workflows, and tools we use at RocketTools to transform how businesses operate Your first mission: Drop a comment below with: Your biggest AI or automation challenge right now One task you'd love AI to handle for you What you're hoping to automate or enhance with AI in the next 30 days I read every response and often turn your challenges into our next classroom lesson. Fair warning: I believe in learning by doing with AI. Expect hands-on projects. Expect to actually build AI-powered solutions. Expect to surprise yourself with what's possible when you combine human creativity with artificial intelligence. Ready to turn your busywork into breakthrough work with AI? Let's automate the ordinary and amplify the extraordinary through intelligent automation. — Dan

Thanks, Dan! Grateful to join this community and appreciate your contribution to the AI and automation space, your hands on approach is always refreshing. I’ve been working on a side project TextBehindPicture that just hit beta. As someone who isn’t strong in marketing, I’m now building an AI workflow to automate social media posting and save time. Excited to learn and build alongside everyone here!
