Where do you work with clay?
I have two places I can work with clay- either at work(high school ceramics teacher) or at home in my shed/studio. Right now I greatly prefer the school studio because it’s warmer and not in complete shambles. At home I’ve got one broken wheel, a huge mess from painting and renovating, and a max temp of about 60 degrees. At school, there’s a pug mill, great lighting and, just a lot less hassle. We’re on our third snow day in a row so I’ve got to go out to the old shed and warm things up to get some things done and it had me wondering what your space is like. Give us the good and the bad!

I'm 100% at a community studio for now. I fantasize about creating a space at home, just to give me some flexibility and more practice time, but so far I haven't worked out how or where.

@Trey Foster It is! I have to plan ahead and make good use of my time, but they have everything I need and I really enjoy the people. My own space at home would just be a fun bonus. Someday!
Bat advice
I need to buy some of my own bats to use at my community studio. They have plenty for me to use, but I'd like to have the flexibility of leaving items on the bat to dry occasionally. Since I want to let items sit a while, plastic is probably not ideal?? I'm new to this, so looking for recs on what I should buy. Thank you!

@Trey Foster ooo. You found a good estate sale!
What would you like to learn?
I have a boatload of content to share with you, but what I really want to know is how I can help you best. What techniques or skills would you like to learn?

@Trey Foster Awesome! I am excited for the trimming lessons, too. Just when I think I'm getting the hang of trimming, I make a mess of things. 😆

@Trey Foster yay! Thank you!
Did you get any pottery things this Holiday?
I didn’t get anything directly pottery related for Christmas, but I did get some LED lights for my studio! I’m working on making my home studio a lot more video friendly so I look slightly less like a troll in his hidey hole. Did y’all get any pottery stuff?

I am slowly building up my own collection of tools, so I treated myself to a couple new trimming tools and a new tote. My next wishlist item is an immersion blender.
Welcome! Introduce Yourself!
First off, thank you for being here! My hope is to help you grow as an artist, no matter what level you’re at. Introduce yourself here so we can all get to know each other, and so I can start to custom tailor the content just for you! Tell us a little about yourself and the type of art you make (or want to make).

Hi! I'm in Austin, TX and fairly new to ceramics. I've been taking classes for about 8 months, averaging one day or so a week in the studio. The learning curve is huge, and although I was completely hooked after my first class, I'm somewhat of a slow learner. I just became a studio member so that I can get more practice time. Really looking forward to taking these courses into the studio with me!
