My ambitious students/friends
I was on a call with a student today and she was clearly super smart. But she had taken the MCAT before and the fear of failure felt bigger this time, cz the stakes were higher and another gap year that you don't want feels really exhausting... Many of you have been there... But guess what helped her? To be reminded that SHE KNOWS SHE CAN (literally her own words), and the focus you can generate when you dive deeper into your own KNOWING is UNMATCHED.... If you keep focussing on THAT, your own potential (THAT you can ace this)... You can generate focus even in freezing temperatures or when the sky is falling down or no matter what the unwanted circumstances are around you. Because in those moments what you really need is your own focus and that comes from training your mind to see something inside of you that you've been ignoring this whole time. Comment if you could relate?

I can def relate. I originally planned on taking the MCAT the summer before my senior year, but now I'm taking it the summer after senior year instead and taking a gap year. It feels really weird to explain that to people sometimes and sometimes I question if I even made the right decision. But I realized that I would rather take it slow and give myself time to prepare rather than trying to study MCAT and school full time.
Anxiety is that monster if you can take control of, will not rule you.
When test anxiety hits mid-practice, what's the first thing you try to bring yourself back?

I def try to take a step back and just relax for a little bit. If I can get my mind off of whatever is stressing me out, coming back with fresh eyes makes me feel a lot better
MCAT Study Habit
What's one MCAT study habit you know you should break but haven't yet? Fresh-week energy — a chance to name it and reset.

getting started with mcat prep, especially on subjects that I'm not good at!!!
Does MCAT overwhelm you or excite you?
I used to feel anxious and overwhelmed at the thought of a big goal — the kind with real weight attached. For me it was a candidacy exam that was going to decide whether I stayed in grad school or not. The anxiety wasn't proportional to the actual stakes. It was bigger than it needed to be. What I eventually learned was a concept called lowering importance. Not lowering your standards. Here's the piece that actually changed things for me: it's not about shrinking the goal. It's about growing your self-image to match it. When the goal feels bigger than you, anxiety fills the gap. When you build your self-image up to be equal to the goal, the gap closes — and so does the anxiety. One way to start: instead of asking "what if I fail this," ask "who do I need to see myself as to handle this calmly?" Then act like that person today, in one small decision. Has this happened to you — a goal that felt so weighted it started working against you?

I’m a little excited for learning mcat material, but at the same time, when I look at the high yield sheets there’s just so much information crammed into each page. It def makes me feel overwhelmed and confused on where to even begin
 the biggest fear, named plainly
If you're prepping for the MCAT right now, what's the fear underneath the fear? Not "I'm scared of a low score." The thing under that. Is it "I'm not smart enough"? "I'll disappoint someone"? "I'll have to start over"? "I'm not built for this"? Name it below — even just a few words. Sometimes just seeing it written out takes some of its power away.

I’m also afraid that none of the effort I put in will be worth it and that in the end, I’ll just disappoint myself
