Week 1 Challenge 🎙️
Every week, I’ll post a short text for you to read out loud and record yourself. This is one of the best ways to improve your pronunciation because it helps you notice your mistakes and track your progress over time. Here’s how it works: 1. Read the text out loud and record yourself. Don’t overthink it; just do your best! 2. Upload your recording in the comments so you can get personalized feedback. 3. Only after you’ve recorded yourself, listen to my audio. Think of it as an answer key. Compare your pronunciation, rhythm, stress, and intonation with mine. 💡 Pro tip: Save your recording! In 3 or 4 weeks, record yourself reading the exact same text again. You’ll be surprised by how much you’ve improved.

@Mackenzie Marino I love your feedback! Thank you, Mackenzie! I’ll definitely keep that in mind for my future challenges
Pronunciation Corner 🎤
Welcome to the Pronunciation Corner! This is the place to ask any pronunciation questions you have. If you’ve ever wondered, “How do I actually say this word?” or “Why doesn’t this sound like it’s spelled?” I also encourage our native English speakers to join the conversation and help answer questions, share tips, and give feedback. The more perspectives you get, the better! To get us started, here are a few words that many Brazilians struggle with because the pronunciation is very different from the spelling: - queue (line) - aisle - muscle - bomb - calm - plumber Feel free to add any words you’ve always had trouble pronouncing, and let’s practice together! 🎉

From the words above I just didn't know about calm. Are you telling me that palm, balm, and psalm are all silent "l"? Lol!! I know many brazilians who struggle with the words definitely, iron, castle, manslaughter, to, country.
Biggest win!
I finally created this community. Something I have been thinking about for months; now, it’s here. That is my win and you guys coming along this journey will be my victory 💪

Hi Daniel! Nice to meet you 😊 One of my closest friends lives in Lisbon!! Her name is Maite and she has been living there for the past 10 years, so everything I know about Portugal is from what she tells me. I love that you mentioned God, and saw you are Christian. I am too. I enjoy reading 2 or 3 chapters from my Bible before bed. And about singing, I love to do karaoke just for fun. What sports do you enjoy playing/watching?

@Wellington Bonfim brandao Hey, I live in East Texas.... It's ok. I am planning to move soon. I like it here because it's a family-oriented area, no traffic, and all the benefits from living out of the big cities. The downsides are the extreme heat in the summer and the high pollen levels, which aren’t great for people who have allergies - like me. But overall, Texas is a very welcoming place, and the people are kind and hospitable!
“The Math Lady” is actually from Brazil
For a little bit of context, the woman in the meme is Renata Sorrah, a Brazilian actress. She played Nazaré Tedesco, one of the most iconic TV villains in Brazil, in the 2004 soap opera Senhora do Destino. In the story, Nazaré kidnaps a baby girl and raises her as her own, while pretending to be innocent. She became famous for being manipulative, dramatic, and unforgettable. Years later, screenshots of her confused facial expressions were edited with floating math equations, and the meme spread across the internet. It’s kind of crazy to think about how memes travel across the world. Something as random as a scene from a Brazilian soap opera ended up becoming one of the most recognizable reaction memes on the internet. Oh well… Just like Nazaré Tedesco, I’ve also traveled the world and ended up here in the US, a place I now call home 🇺🇸 Did you know this meme originated in Brazil?

This meme is great! She’s one of my favorite villains from a soap opera! I remember watching her in Senhora do Destino and laughing. I was a teenager back then... she definitely brought some sympathy with her authentic, sharp humor, even though she was so evil. Nazaré Tedesco will always be an icon in Brazilian culture!
