Tell us a little bit about who you are, and where you're from and we want to know: 1. Who you’re researching 2. Where they’re from (if you know) 3. And what you’re stuck on (or hoping to learn) Ask a question, even if it's basic. There is no such thing as a silly genealogy question here!

Hi Folks, I'm newly retired and picking up the family research baton from my mum. I am researching her father's ancestors, a whole line of James Simpsons from Ireland. And I'm also looking at the lineage of my dad's father, a Stone from London. Quite a few sticking points. At front of mind at the moment, my grandfather's uncle Wensley Simpson, who is said to have died at the Battle of Alma in the Crimean war. Looking for his service no or the English regiment he fought with so I can search for him in the muster rolls at National Archives. Having very little joy. No Wensleys, lots of W Simpsons, mostly William or Walter. I'm finding the online National Archives very confusing.
