I was late this morning...
I am at the gym every morning at 5am (don't judge me that's just what works for me LOL). This morning I was late. At the gym there is what I like the call my 5am club. You see all of us are pretty tight - in other words there aren't that many of us. This morning, late and all as I made my way to the treadmill - one of my favorite bartenders, who happens to be part of the 5am club, starts pointing at his watch. Yeah, I know I said but it's my birthday week - do I get a pass? I hopped on the treadmill and started my run. Not long after I get a wave and a "hi Mandi" (only the 5am club are allowed to call me Mandi). I smiled waved back and continued my run. Why am I telling you this? As I was putting in my miles this morning it got me thinking how much my 5am club teaches me about community. They are always there to hold me accountable (let's face it sometimes it isn't easy to be there that early), give encouragement - a smile - a good morning - a hug - or even a high five. And every Friday after the workout gather in the lobby to eat donuts (yeah I know eating donuts in the gym lobby is a little ironic!). That is what I want for my community as well. Accountability, encouragement, and the ability to just "hang out" with one another. If we apply what we want in a community IRL to a community online I think it helps us foster true "community". What are your favorite ways to build the community feeling?
