What kind of clay do you use?
There’s so many clays out there and I used the same one for 10 years before trying something else. What clay are you using? Right now I’m using 3 different Standard Clays: 266 Dark brown, 211 hazelnut, and at school we use 553 buff stoneware. I love the way dark brown looks, but it also gives me the most problems…

I’m currently using standard 112 but I did just order some white bear to experiment with. I am wanting something lighter and smoother

I have a few more out in the shed but this is mostly what I have
Where do you work with clay?
I have two places I can work with clay- either at work(high school ceramics teacher) or at home in my shed/studio. Right now I greatly prefer the school studio because it’s warmer and not in complete shambles. At home I’ve got one broken wheel, a huge mess from painting and renovating, and a max temp of about 60 degrees. At school, there’s a pug mill, great lighting and, just a lot less hassle. We’re on our third snow day in a row so I’ve got to go out to the old shed and warm things up to get some things done and it had me wondering what your space is like. Give us the good and the bad!

I started out in my 14x40 shed but that one is not yet insulated. I moved the wheel into my living room and in the spring I’ll work towards getting the shed insulated and climate controlled.

@Trey Foster it has mats under it now 🤣
Did you get any pottery things this Holiday?
I didn’t get anything directly pottery related for Christmas, but I did get some LED lights for my studio! I’m working on making my home studio a lot more video friendly so I look slightly less like a troll in his hidey hole. Did y’all get any pottery stuff?

@Cristy Eggers if it’s out side you don’t need the vent system. It requires cutting a hole into a wall

@Cristy Eggers the hard part for me was making sure I had the right 220 set up for it. Hired an electrician to get it all set up. It requires 60 amp, not the typical 20
How often are you muddy?
Just curious, how often are you in your studio or workspace?

@Debbie Sharp I have a similar situation with the water, I’m working out of a 14x40 shed that I hooked power up to. I think I am going to have water ran to it and put in a point-of-use water heater for the a sink.
