Do you sabotage yourself?
I've been rereading the Big Leap and he talks about how we all have an upper limit, the high end of our comfort zone where we might sabotage ourselves before ascending it. I'm curious if you've noticed this in your own life. I definitely hit one in 2022. Some of it was burn out--I didn't allow myself enough rest and fun to recooperate. And I once left a room of very successful authors, telling myself I did belong (even though I did!). And I see how I avoid being more visible on social media--there's some visibility I allow but I tend to control it. Denise DT talks about how some people get sick before launches, or don't allow themselves to launch at all! Or spend their money as fast as they make it, or give their money away or feel guilty about saving it. Or avoid doing the things that would make them successful, like marketing (I've done this too!). Think of a time you had some break out success or momentum and notice how you behaved. Did you celebrate? Allow yourself to rest? Or did you go out and wreck your car (I had an entrepreneurial ex-boyfriend who did this every time business went well)? No judgement, just notice! How do you sabotage yourself when reaching your upper limit?

I'm starting my 33rd year working at a school--librarian most recently. I've mostly been an aide, which doesn't pay like a teacher, so I've always had to have other income to help with bills. I recently took a part-time job at a bookstore to replace some tutoring I was doing during the school year. In trying to set myself up for retirement in a few years, I started a YouTube channel in the hopes of monetizing it within a couple of years, if not sooner. But now as the first week of school ended yesterday, I'm wondering how I'll be able to keep up with everything, and I'm realizing how important it will be for me to rest on Sunday afternoons to prepare myself for the new week. It's hard for me to rest, though, knowing I have a long to-do list, But I'll have to try hard.
Ready to let go of Facebook (as social media, not for ads)
I never garnered a following on Facebook. Not my page, nor my reader group (both are under 100 follows/members). As a last-ditch effort to decide if I should stop bothering with FB altogether, I've been running an experiment for a couple of weeks between IG and FB. I've both scheduled posts and posted live twice a day over that time, and I have absolutely no reach on FB. Not even with my followers. And my reader group doesn't see my posts 80-ish% of the time. Only my ads are interacted with on FB. On IG, though, I have almost 2100 followers and receive sooooo much more interaction and interest there. Since IG and FB both have disabled cross-platform posting for scheduled posts, I'm thinking about giving up FB to concentrate on what's working and alleviate the stress of putting effort into a platform my readers either don't use or have not found me on (I do have the links everywhere). Does anyone see a reason this may be a bad idea? I'm glad for the input and insights! 💜

I am in the same boat and not sure what to do. My reader group is small, but my page is over 500 (started it several years ago) and used to get seen, not anymore, though.
IF you want a boost
listen to THIS do it 30 days in a row and let me know what happens :D

@Seann Vinyasa-Billson I LOVE Rick! His music always energizes me.
Was given "radical" newsletter advice 😆
An author who I consider rather successful told me this morning that when she (her assistant, actually) sends out her newsletter, a few days later they'll send the exact newsletter out again to everyone who didn't open it the first time. They just change the subject line. She said that 30-65% of the people who didn't open the newsletter the first time will open it the second time. I thought that was wild! Has anyone here done this? Did/do you see similar results? I was thinking about trying it.

I hadn't thought of doing that, but I will try the next time.

I'm using Email Octopus and can do a resend if I make a duplicate of the first email, then only send to the unopens. I sent my first email on a Tuesday and had 47% opens, then resent it on Friday and had 18% more open. I only had one unsub each time, but I had culled my list in ML when they dropped the free tier from 1000 to 500. I was at 46-48% opens there. Anyway, I just wanted to share.
Newsletters: Short Links and Deliverability
I use FloDesk, and they sent me an email this morning that taught me something I didn't know or ever even considered: Short links can land your emails in junk folders. 😶 They actually sent me a list of all my emails that contained short links, including my onboarding workflow emails, and listed all of the individual links I should chage. This is what they said to open the message (I added spaces so they wouldn't show up as links): ***"Good news: we found a simple way to help strengthen your deliverability and sender reputation. While looking out for your account, we noticed a few shortened links (such as bit. ly, tinyurl, amzn. to, etc.) in your content. Swapping them for full URLs shows inbox providers exactly where your links lead, which builds trust and helps more of your messages land where they should. In our data, emails with full URLs tend to see around 46% higher opens and 29% higher clicks than those using shorteners like bit. ly. A quick switch can go a long way."*** I wanted to share because I will combine attribution links from KDP with bit. ly links (for instance, I'd have a "newsletter" att link and then use bit. ly to break down particular send dates, etc., plus a short link is easier to share on socials) I won't be doing that anymore for newsletters, specifically. 🫶

If I'm doing a book swap with another author, I've shortened the link. I don't use bitly or anything like that, just shorten it right there on Amazon. So they're saying not to do that either?
