What do you want to get out of the community (September)?
Hey Everybody, New month! So new goals I know for me, I have had this big realization that AI is just genuinely not that difficult to use. I guess I am very deep in the bubble of people who play with it a ton. But increasingly, I am becoming more convinced that the real skills I want to focus on mastering are my construction management skills. So trying to do more content on construction projects and businesses. The skills that actually matter. The thing I find hard is that AI is such a massive buzzword that any video I do with AI in the title does well. I'm tryin to balance that with the topic that I think really has a huge amount of depth and complexity to it which is Construction. I did this video and was really happy with it. This is more the style of content I want to be doing What are your goals for September?

@Houston Whipple That makes a lot of sense, Houston. When you’re handling estimating, project management, and superintendent work all at once, there’s a lot of moving pieces that can easily get missed. Having ChatGPT help structure everything from the bid stage through to the project being awarded sounds like a smart way to take some of that mental load off. What part of the process are you hoping to automate the most?

@Houston Whipple That makes sense, Houston. It sounds like you’re really trying to build a system that keeps the whole process organized, from getting the scope into a bid invite to tracking estimates and making sure nothing falls through the cracks. I’ve actually been working on something else outside of this that’s been giving me some really consistent results, and I think you might find it interesting. I’d be happy to share it and compare notes if you’re open to it. Are you on Telegram? We could connect there and discuss it properly
How I use AI to find construction cost savings
I use AI to explore ways to reduce the work we need to do and compare different ways to deliver it. I give it the project requirements, estimate, programme and actual production rates, then focus on three areas: Design: Compare the design with the original requirements. Have we specified a more expensive product than we need? Any alternative still has to meet the required performance and standards. Procurement: Could we buy major items, such as a generator, directly? Compare the saving with the extra work and risk of managing the supply ourselves. Construction methods: Compare different crews, plant and sequences. Two crews might finish sooner, but cost more to mobilise. Check whether finishing earlier reduces the weekly cost of keeping the site running. I then get separate AI reviewers to challenge the options from commercial, construction and site-supervision perspectives. AI helps explore the options. We still need to check the assumptions, confirm the engineering and decide what makes sense for the project. Full walk-through: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHUXtdkZoDM&feature=youtu.be

@Jem Arcibal I agree, Jem. AI can definitely help surface a lot of possibilities quickly, but having someone who understands the situation makes a big difference when it comes to deciding what’s actually worth pursuing. I’ve been exploring a few things myself and have found the same idea applies beyond AI too. What kind of decisions or opportunities are you mainly using AI to explore?

@Jem Arcibal Yeah Jem, I think there’s definitely some overlap there. I’ve actually been exploring something completely separate from AI that has been bringing me some really consistent results so far, and I’d genuinely like to share what I’ve been doing with you. I’ve sent you a DM here on Skool so we can chat about it properly 🙂
