Hey everyone, so glad to be part of the Rhythm Academy. Looking forward to joining the live sessions and meeting and learning from everyone. I’ve been in two academy’s over the past three+ yrs and the biggest take away was the community! That’s where I could vent my frustrations and feed off others who have been exactly where I am. Again, look forward to meeting you all. Cheers

doing good Dave! I moved on from the guitar academy I’ve been in for over a year. I went from Ulrich’s academy about a year and some months right into the school I just finished. I wanted to get some me time musically vs turn in task X before task Y, but then you have task Z all progressively harder. Now I can focus on what I’ve learned and apply real-world vs. doing drills all day to improve posture and touch. And give your Academy my full attention 🤘😎 Rhythm days for me are Saturdays. Don’t get me wrong when I do guitar drills I use a metronome and vary between subdivisions every day. Sat is to watch videos get clarity so when I do practice it’s the right way. Thx Dave!
Do you rush? Drag? Second-guess where the beat is?
Starting Friday, January 16th, we're doing something I'm genuinely pumped about. A 2-week experience for musicians who want to finally feel SOLID with their timekeeping—not chasing the groove, but staying rhythmically connected no matter what's happening around you. Here's what's happening: Friday Jan 16: Build Your 2026 Rhythm Plan (90 min) - Deep Groove Compass assessment (TIME, RHYTHM, FEEL, CONNECT) - Live demo: How I practice staying rhythmically connected to the groove in any situation - Build your personalised practice plan for steady, reliable, in-the-pocket playing - Get ready for the Virtual Practice Room Monday Jan 19 - Friday Jan 23: Virtual Practice Room - 20-minute sessions together (choose your timezone: 9am, 1pm, or 4pm UK) - 5-minute rhythm workout to start each session - Then 15 minutes practicing YOUR material with solid pulse and rhythmic connection - You're not alone, but you're not performing - Daily rhythmic focus: TIME → RHYTHM → FEEL → CONNECT → INTEGRATION Monday Jan 26: Integration Session (60 min) - Debrief the practice week - Reflection: What worked, what clicked, what challenged you - Refine your plan based on real experience - Q&A and next steps discussion And by the end? You'll have: ✅ A clear plan for developing rock-solid timekeeping and rhythmic connection in 2026 ✅ The Triangle method grounding your pulse and rhythm in your body ✅ 5 days of consistent, focused rhythmic practice under your belt ✅ Experienced what it feels like to practice with accountability and direction Who's this for? Musicians who: - Tend to rush when excited or drag when concentrating - Feel like they're chasing the groove instead of staying rhythmically connected - Second-guess where the beat is - Want to feel steady, reliable, connected, and in the pocket - Practice rhythm alone without knowing if they're actually improving their time Any instrument. Any level. What you get: - Complete 2-week workshop experience - One month Premium membership access - Weekly workouts + 15+ archived sessions - Triangle Workshop + Sabar Series - Community support

Marked up the calendar for this one! I remember a workshop you did from the road once w/ Ulrich. It was late evening for you and I remember you being in a hotel room. We practiced the step movements like the 1 and 2 and 3 and 4. It definitely locks you in! Looking forward to the workshop and seeing you again. Well, And improving my rhythmic placements. Cheers until then! Michael M.
Practice. Progress. Play.
I've been talking with some of you about staying consistent with practice. Here's the reality: even after 20+ years, I drift without a system. Even with projects and deadlines ahead, I need to sit down and plan. Otherwise momentum dies. Consistency is what transforms random sessions into real progress. And real progress is what lets you actually enjoy playing music. That's the path: Practice. Progress. Play. I'm thinking about putting together a workshop for early January where we build our 2026 rhythm practice plans together. We'd cover: → Daily rhythm workout structure (that you'll actually do) → How to show up consistently without burning out → Building momentum that lasts → Setting goals that motivate instead of overwhelm I'd also share musical examples of what I'm preparing for upcoming projects - how I'm breaking down the rhythm work and building it into daily practice. Couple of hours live with Q&A. Recording + all the planning materials afterward. Under $30. Early January. If this sounds useful, drop a comment below. I'm gauging interest before I put it all together. Dave

Absolutely 💯
Find Your Groove - Favorite Phrase
I’m starting to dig into my rhythmic development with the first 20 min workout. I love the phrase “ have guidance from someone that knows their shite”, proper! Can’t wait to get into a routine. Thx @Dave Smith
