Recharge for the Resistance
In social justice and activism there are many roles to play. My big way is to help prevent burn out for those on one of the front lines and to help everyone not get overwhelmed by the ongoing injustice. To that end I am hosting this free program. Facebook invite at the bottom. Are you on the front lines of the fight against fascism? Organizing, protesting, giving mutual aid, donating, counseling, and so on? Is the state of the union overwhelming you? Come for a spiritual recharge. We are no good to anyone if we burn out. This may help. We will meditate and study a teaching about social justice and resistance from one of the world’s spiritual traditions. There is no charge for the Recharge event. Registration required. Facilitated by Menachem Cohen (he/they) of Spirituality Unboxed. I do spiritual direction and coaching and am an inter-spiritual rabbi. I helped found Occupy Rogers Park and the Spiritual Care group of Occupy Chicago. I marched on Washington a number of times, including the 1993 March on Washington for Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Equal Rights and Liberation (it was a big deal to add ‘Bisexual’ to the name back then), as well as many other protests and actions over the years (protecting abortion clinics, protesting the Gulf War, mic-checking local politicians). I have practiced meditation for over 30 years, including Jewish mystical healing. For 13+ years I worked on the Youth Outreach Team of The Night Ministry with queer and/or homeless youth on the streets of Chicago and at the Broadway Youth Center.
