Challenge! Show Up & Create
Most artists don’t fail because of talent. They disappear. So let’s fix that. New challenge: Show Up & Create → 3x per week→ for 30 days→ post whatever you made (finished or messy) Rules: - No perfection - No overthinking - Just proof you showed up - Miss a day? Don’t quit. Just continue. This is about becoming someone who creates. Not someone who waits. I’m in too. Who’s joining?

Hi Kim, I focus on still life myself. While mine tend to be more typical in subject matter, my definition of still life covers anything that does not include people or any type of living creature or focuses on the landscape - so yes that is a still life.

@Ozge Gul Hi, Ozge. Thanks. The Affordable Art fair is exciting. London is where the fair started. I have always wanted to at least go to one in London, but never been there when on was on. Having been in both Boston (my home area) and New York, I can say it is a very vibrant and active event. The Fair does a very good job of attracting buyers and a variety of galleries from all over. I did sell a little in Boston, but nothing in New York. In New York I noticed that the more traditional, and representational work like my work did not sell nearly as well as other types. I am not sure why, or if it was just particular to New York this spring. If my gallery returns to Boston this fall, we'll see if I sell some more work there. Just one more bit of information for you, to be in the Affordable Art Fair you need to be represented by a gallery, They do not take solo artists, unless that artist has their own personal brick and mortor storefront. I hope that helps, Melinda

@Jenny Warden HI Jenny, I actually fell into scenery painting. I had no idea you could make a living doing it eve though I painted scenery and made costumes while in school. It would have made life easier in NYC when I was in my 20s! I stopped when my daughter was small. After we moved to Boston, movies were the only viable way to work - very long hours and child care ate up most of the money I made. But at that point I began painting when I could, so it all worked our.
🎙️ We’re starting a podcast! — and we need you.
Hi Messy Art Squat! @artbyrebeccaknoerr and I are doing this thing. 🎉 We are starting a podcast. For artists who color outside the lines, start over, make messes, and keep going anyway. 🎨 But first — what should we call it? And what do you actually want to hear us talk about? Pitch us your topics, your burning questions, your “I wish someone would just talk about THIS” moments. We’re listening. Literally. 🎧👇

I'm not sure about a title, but I think it might be good if it uses the idea of mess or messy. Perhaps something like making magic from the mess - because don't we all want some sort of magic to come from the messes we make. It's a process. As for topics, its always great to hear about other peoples practices and thought processes. Also how to keep moving in the face of discouragement or lack of confidence. Just some thoughts
