@Heidi Stroup thank you Heidi! I’d love to see your surreal piece when you’re able to make one 🥰

@Heidi Stroup these are so good!! Loveeee the gummi bears and frog. The colors are amazing! Looks like you’re very allround so far because your watercolors are very good as wel!! Personally I struggle so much with watercolors so I realllly admire it when artists master them 💪
Advice on correcting skincolor
Hi there! I’m very happy to be able to ask questions on here (I don’t have a lot of artist friends to turn to 🤣). I hope to get some tips for the following 😊 I started painting about 6 months ago, this being my 3rd or 4th painting with oilpaint. I’m ‘self taught’ so I’m figuring out a bunch of things while practicing, mostly watching tutorials. I struggle with the skintone on my portrait, though the skintone in the reference is warm (tanned skin in summer) I think mine is too warm (the color is slightly brighter and warmer in real life then on the picture I took of the painting). I tried toning it down by glazing some thinned blue/greenish color over it, but it looked muddy and by wiping the glazing it just sort of got stuck in the canvas structure, looking weird. I’ve never really tried glazing so I don’t know what I’m doing tbh 🤣 Also: I used sienna as the color for the underpainting, maybe that was’nt the best choice. I’m wondering if I should wait with correcting the skintone until I finish the bottom of the painting and the hat (its a black and white Checkered hat), because that puts the color into context? If glazing is the best option, please let me know how you would do this (which steps, color) or link tutorials 🫶 Ps: the painting is me as a young child holding up a drawing I made (I have to ad the drawing later 😉) 😊 Thanks in advance!

@Bine Ehrig Thank you for your feedback! The arm is a bit odd in regards to the face and other hand. I think I mixed more pink in it. I will try and fix it, it's a good suggestion to use some of the brightness in the face. But I'll focus on finishing the rest first, scared to make it worse otherwise 🤣

@Elke Distelrath thank you! That is good advice to keep in mind! Similar to the method I’m using (got this from an online course): I’ll make three base color mixes for the skin, 1 dark, 1 medium and 1 light. Then, I make variations of all these three mixers to get all the different skintones covered. So every color in the skin is basicly made out of the same base, depending on the value I need. I also don’t clean my brush inbetween, but more out of laziness 🤣 sometimes I do get a muddy look because of that 🙃 The problem now is I made my medium base color a bit too orange. I’m still not sure how to correct it, but I’ll hopefully get there somehow 😁

Hello Everyone. I'm new to the group and new to calling myself an artist. It's taken a lifetime for me to finally prioritise and value being creative. Discouraged by everyone as a teenager, I gave up drawing entirely and took up a career in banking. Resurrecting my love for art fell to the bottom of a massive "to do" list and never got a chance. Through a mixture of happy and sad life changes, I finally found the time and motivation to get started again in 2020. I kept it secret at first, and didn't show anyone what I was doing. Once I did, I got commissions and did a few pieces. Then one nightmare "customer" gave cruel comments and refused to pay for the portrait I'd done for him. It really got to me and I stopped drawing again, for another 2 years. But now I'm back, and this time I'm not letting anyone stop me. It's taken 60 years for me to find the time, the space and most of all the courage. That is far too long, but still better late than never. I can't wait to see what everyone is up to in this group, and to hear about your journeys. As a gesture of faith I'm sharing the portrait that the unhappy client rejected. If I can share that, I can share anything!!! Here goes......

Advice on architecture drawing drills?
Hello, painting of Stockholm to get some attention. Does anyone have tips for drawing drills for buildings? Or YouTube accounts? I like drawing buildings but have no training whatsoever in perspective and all the rest 😅. Sam

What a nice painting! ❤️ I don’t have much experience with architecture but I find Domestika has great only courses, if you search architecture or drawinf buildings I’m sure there will be courses that might be helpful!
Advice needed! Making own canvas!
Hi everyone, I’ve been feeling for a while that I want to paint BIG 😂 But I’m also still developing as an artist that I don’t really want to spend big bucks on giant canvases. So I’m thinking I could make my own (just add another thing to my creative to do list 😂). Has anyone made their own and have any tips or tricks to help? I’d be grateful for any advice 🙏🏽 Picture of one of my tiny paintings for some attention 😂😆 Help get out of the tiny phase!!

No advice on making your own canvas, but your painting style on a big canvas would look so cool 🤩 so if it’s going to work out with the canvas, I’m here for the result!😜
