"How to get the right students" - first classroom video. Check it out!
Hey everyone, I've just added the first video to the 'Classroom' section and it's a good starting point for helping you attract the RIGHT students online. There is a PDF download to help get you going in the right direction. https://www.skool.com/musicianfreedom/classroom/5278cb34?md=9bae07a31d3b40e3a2e4d3fb738cc16b

I was going to teach singing, which I did for a really long time. I've decided my online venture needs to be fun and not just something I've done for a long time. I actually taught Early Childhood Music for about 5 years and absolutely loved it. I taught Kindermusik, then developed my own program. So, Early Childhood Music it is. My one liner at the moment is: "Meg's Musikids teaches fun, fabulous, joy filled, online music and movement classes, to babies, toddlers, preschool kids and the grown-ups who love them!"

@Jacob Evans Yes, it's a classroom management thing plus pacing of the classes with high participation from the grown-ups. Quite a few Early childhood Music schools are still offering online classes. It will feel very different to offline classes for sure. Plus they'll have access to all the music so they can practice/have fun during the week and an encouraging online community where they can post videos and show how high, how low, how fast, how slow etc their children are doing the different activities. I think the live classes will be a starting point but an encouraging community will be why people will want to stay and will also make friends.
Stop Undercharging For Music Lessons
Musicians, it’s time to rethink your pricing. Too many of us undervalue our expertise by charging cheap rates for music lessons. It might seem like the right way to attract students but undercharging doesn’t just hurt your bottom line, it undermines the value of music education across the board. Charging more not only raises the perceived value of what you offer but also attracts students who are more committed to learning. These students will show up ready to practice, engage, and grow. Higher rates also encourage YOU to grow as an educator. You’ll feel motivated to develop better teaching methods, invest in resources, and refine your craft. This elevates the quality of lessons and benefits both you and your students. By setting fair, competitive rates, you’re not only making your teaching practice more sustainable but also proactively increasing the value of music education as a whole.

@Jacob Evans Wow, that's $3000 AUD per person, $250 AUD per week, it certainly is high end. Jacob my question is, what if your target market is older adults who don't want a music career, they just want to have fun singing and make new friends in an online community of other people who love to sing. Can you really charge that much? I suppose private lessons plus the community, feedback, support, challenges, open mic nights, on demand vocal workouts etc all adds up. But $250 AUD a week is a lot!

Hi everyone, I'm Meg, I was a singer many moons ago, and have a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance. I taught singing offline for about 30 years in between having kids. I taught a few students online for a year and then decided I needed a break from teaching. So for the past 2 years I've not been teaching but would now love to get back into it and specialise in teaching singing online for older adults aged 40 plus. I have lots of ideas but am starting from scratch with no students. Am looking forward to learning lots and getting to know everyone.

A Smarter Way to Earn as a Musician 💡
You love making music. It’s what you’re passionate about, but let’s be honest, gigging can be a tough way to make a steady living. Late nights, unpredictable pay, and constant grind can leave you wondering if there’s another way to do what you love and still make ends meet. What if there was a way to share your skills, connect with more people, and create a reliable income without giving up your passion for music? Teaching online might be exactly what you’re looking for. It’s flexible, it works with your schedule, and it lets you reach students from all over the world. Whether you’re: ✅ A musician trying to supplement your gig income, ✅ Someone who’s never taught before but wants to try, or ✅ An experienced teacher wanting to shift more of your students online, Online teaching can offer you more freedom and stability while still keeping music at the center of what you do. And the best part is getting started is more accessible than ever. With the right tools and a little planning, you can take that first step toward building something meaningful and sustainable. ❔Have you thought about teaching online before? What’s been holding you back?

I taught singing online for a year and have had a break. Teaching privately 1 on 1 online is very different to in person, especially with the time lag and the sound is not always great. That's probably what's been holding me back as I want my online lessons to be just as good as offline, if not better. I would love to have a singing community where people can chat , learn and make friends as they learn to sing. I think finding the students to start the community is another reason that's holding me back.
