This is the second try on a portrait I did for a friend who was a former student of mine. The first one was a total disaster, had too many proportion issues, so I promised him a second try! I think I did good! There’s always room for improvement, I guess we all acknowledge that as common ground. Happy to hear what you guys think of it! I felt I couldn’t give it any other title! Kinda loud title to be ignored! Lol!

@Dima Jurf Thank you so much!! I really spent my time with those very lovely eyes of hers. There´s a fruit here in Brazil, and it´s native only in Brazil, we call it Jaboticaba. It grows all over the branches of the Jaboticaba Tree (Jaboticabeira, as we call it), the fruits are small and round, very much like grapes ( the Jaboticaba doesn´t taste anything like a grape), but the skin is thicker and very black and shiny, just like her eyes. People in Brazil who have these very dark eyes, like hers, we say they have jaboticaba eyes!

@Natasza Zurek thank you, so much.
My Father (in memory)
This is probably the most emotional painting I have ever worked on. I miss him lot even though it’s been so many years now since he passed away. It’s a picture taken from back in 1982. I took me four previous sketches before I was satisfied with the result, but once I liked the sketch I transferred it to a proper canva paper. I still have some work to do on it. I haven’t yet declared it finished work. I’m trying to work loosely and I don’t want to polish it too much. Critiques are always welcome.

What is your biggest struggle with portrait drawing right now?
Hey everyone, I am working on my portrait drawing skills right now. Some wins and losses, what are your challenges?

Measuring proportions would be my greatest challenge.
Spotting the Great Trochanter in a Study after François Boucher
I was drawn to the beautiful twist in this pose, such a dynamic rhythm! The bean method works perfectly when capturing the torsos in Boucher’s figures; it really helps to anchor the movement. After watching Chris’s video on the Great Trochanter, I couldn’t help but notice how clearly it stands out in this pose. It’s like a central knot where so many muscle forms converge, such a fascinating area to study! Looking at it now, I think I could have emphasized that “knot” a little better, definitely something I will consider in my next studies. Coloured pencil and graphite on paper.
