Question of the day #4
You are the first-arriving EMT on scene of a two-vehicle collision at an intersection. One vehicle has significant front-end damage with airbag deployment. The second vehicle is on its side with fuel leaking from the engine compartment. There are four patients total. Fire and additional EMS units are en route. As you begin your scene size-up, a bystander tells you that one of the patients inside the overturned vehicle is unconscious. You note a strong odor of gasoline and light traffic continuing to pass through the intersection. What is your priority action? A. Immediately access the unconscious patient and begin airway management B. Direct bystanders to help remove patients from the overturned vehicle C. Establish scene safety and request additional resources while preventing traffic flow D. Begin triage and tag the most severely injured patient first
