Advice on slowing down mental game
Knowing Charlie hand selected everyone, I know you’re all fantastic people and looking forward to meeting/hearing from you. In life, I am wired to rush rush rush whether it’s responding to a work email, or hurrying up to pull into the parking space so I don’t inconvenience the people Waiting behind me 😂 This translates against my favor on the golf course, the voice inside my head tells me to hurry up but in reality, a slower metal tempo is when I play my best. I’m a fast player in general, but notice if I’m a twosome jammed between foursomes, and I’m forced to slow down, this is when I play my best. What I’m asking the group, anyone that battles/battled this, any advice on how to force yourself to slow down, take your time, not feel Rushed, etc.? Also extremely relevant many rounds the first couple holes as I try to settle in, or when you’re paired with a nightmarish slow group and you (erroneously) feel like you need to hurry to make up for their slow a$$es. Welcome any advice from anyone!

Matt! I understand this and can relate. I work for a tech company and the pace is fast / furious. I also struggled mightily with slowing down on the course and not wanting to make anyone wait for me (for chips, drives, putts, anything). What worked for me was something specific Charlie told me. Basically, build a pause into my routine on purpose, not too long, just a few seconds before taking the club back, after a last relaxed breath. One and two and three and swing - basically something like this. Looking forward to meet you, man!
Super Powerful
Mental strength @Charlie Beljan Charlie displayed the last four days playing in the wind / links golf and his message to people about his tough final round at PPC for PGA of America is so powerful and spot on - super inspired Charlie, and I’m so glad to be a student in the community and learn from you! PS - that hole 15 at Bandon in the freaking wind - wow what a challenging test of golf skills!!

1000% - I was in awe of CB’s par on 16 today - he went in a pot bunker off the tee, and had a SUPER dicey second shot, but what a play and made a good birdie roll / easy par!! I heard him say off camera “can’t afford to screw up and bring six into play” on the live mic!! Mental strength clinic on live TV great for all of us!!
Cheering for CB!
Let’s Go, Charlie!!! R2 for CB he currently is -4 thru 13 holes today at Pacific Dunes moved up to T10 at the moment - NICE!!! 🔥 Update: -5 with three to play, fantastic ! Will be interesting to see the coverage later on golf channel! Moved up to T6 now in the early part of day!!
