Race predictions, we’re going to start with UAE tour!
Race schedule for men and women (and the broadcast list for those watching in USA). We’re in the process of getting a spreadsheet made so you can enter your pick easily for each stage of a specific race. Basically the rules are simple: Stage races you pick one person for each stage (CANNOT repeat picks, no Pog every summit finish ok). 1st - 25pts 2nd - 24pts ——————— 25th - 1pt 26th and on - 0pts We’ll be mostly using the honor system because I feel like we should only be responsible for our own score. Also, I think it would be fun to track the 10 classics from Strade-Bianche to LBL cumulatively, let us know your thoughts on this. I think it’ll mix things up since you’ll have to pick smartly! If you have any comments, questions, things to add, etc feel free to message me, message @Mary H , or just comment here!

@Victor Gibson I think its fun to have a little pressure driving you to think about these riders. But I also struggle with who I want to win and who actually wins. I’m glad you’re picking…it’s already fun and a nice way to socialize.

Starting Monday, Feb 16….UAE tour, lets go! Remember, pick a guy only once, score 25 for 1st, etc etc. No strict time cutoffs for guesses, just stay honest. Report your results here. Remco - Del Toro showdown??? Startlist here, currently incomplete: https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/uae-tour/2026/startlist
Off topic (books)
I like to get through as many books as I can. Normally my next book is a recommendation from a friend. Have you read anything good lately ? Two from me, the lion trackers guide to life & the creative act by Rick Rubin

I’ve been distracted by the titles you’ve been throwing out, but I can tell you what’s popular at the library right now. Might be geared toward women and generally feel good, but we keep buying copies of The Correspondent by Virginia Evans and can’t keep up with the demand. Theo of Golden is popular too.

@Vern Loebs Jr No, I should look for them. Didn’t know about a Cav book.
Normal People Saturdays
Our usual group spin was cancelled today due to bad weather. So I’m getting my nails done and going to the gym! I guess this is what normal people do on Saturday mornings when they don’t have a weekly group ride. Feels weird.

At least where I live, most normal people don’t seem to enjoy cycling so they’re just weird 7 days a week.
Have we all been accountable today....
Was meant to be 3hrs low Z2 with sprints, but due to poor route choice messed up, so I did the 3hrs with sprints( all seated). I am not skilled enough at standing sprinting yet to do them on a main road, I never feel that I am in full control of the bike, something I need to work on, but no drama. Anyway, I just rode my bike without going daft and focussed on higher cadence which was 89 for the 3 hours....pleased with that.

@Matthew Devins well just for clarification, i think “sprint” confused me, because to me that means all out at high cadence. That’s what I ended up doing in those 30 seconds in my hardest gear.

@Matthew Devins Huh…I never knew that! Thanks for clarifying.
New Gravel Bike??
Probably can't start planning too early, right? So my current gravel bike has treated me well, but the rear derailleur clutch is busted. If I engage it it makes some very loud noises and does not shift smoothly at all. I had the cables replaced and took it to the LBS I bought it from to service the clutch. They said it looks fine to them and to just not use the clutch... I don't love that advice. Love the store and the people though, they run the local group rides that best suit my riding. So, I am considering replacing the rear mech, changing from a 2x to a 1x? Maybe going electronic. Then when I was talking with my father, he suggested a new bike... who doesn't love someone else encouraging them to get a new bike, haha. My current bike is a Trek Checkpoint Gen 2 SL5.5. I say 5.5 because when I bought this bike I was using it as gravel with road set, and bought the Bontrager rims that come on the SL6. I would love to hear input as to should I just upgrade the drivetrain or if this bike is even a good choice for Unbound 200? I set a most likely unreasonably high goal of making top 200. So bike choice likely makes a meaningful impact in my overall time. I have this compulsion that I should buy from the LBS because of how often I ride with them, but maybe I should just get over that? Their brands are: Trek, Giant, Cervelo, Cannondale.

Hey! I’d like to jump in with a question. I was looking at Lauf Sieglas. The Aris mentioned above seem to be the same spec levels as the Lauf. Any input on Lauf vs Ari? @Wesley Hinkle I noticed you have a Lauf.
