Haven't had much time to spend on this this week. Been putting all my efforts into getting a difficult Daft Punk drum groove locked in 🤔🤣 But here we are, a little drum pad jam focusing on bounce hits and cushion hits
Ali hey can’t go wrong with a bit of punk reminds me of my good old days where I had a Mohican leather jacket and I worked with some great people featured in Kerrang Magazine you’re right hand is great your left hand just look at that cushion again. Try and get that stick that left stick to come about an inch of the pad so that you know that the snare pops especially in this music and also check your your pinky on your left hand and your right hand. Try not to use your fingers to create the stroke . I want you to use your wrist more because the reason why when you’re playing this music and you completing against the guitars you need to have your wrist sorted and look at all these the great drummers that Travis Barker, Tre Cool and various others you know they’ve all got that real strong wrist movements so that would really help. Also when you’re resting you wanna leave the cushion/where it is cause you want to pop but don’t bring the stick and then put it into your side. I’ve noticed you doing that like your cradle it into your left Hip you don’t need to do that .Your also moving your your arm and wrist is changing it’s movements .. check in with a mirror again and just get those movements a little bit more streamline because what will happen when you play live and nerves take over one slight movement then the sticks are just gonna go flying out your hands you hit that snare drum in the wrong angle and in the wrong way and you’ve had it you’ll be dropping sticks all over the place . I do hope that all makes sense but you’re doing great. I love the vibe. 🤘🏼🤘🏼🥁
Here's a snippet of my first attempt. I think I'm both a bit in front and then a bit behind the beat 🤣 @George Farrar I definitely need some help getting these pads the right height. You will all also note how unimpressed the dog is by all this.
Hey Jamie, another one bites the dust. I love the set up Man with the pads very cool. right Hand is great your left hand just look at that fulcrum again and also the cushion stroke . Try and get that left stroke to come about an inch of the pad, yeah to get that real solid pop and don’t be afraid to lift the stick high in your left hand if your hands are crossing over that’s a misconception yeah it looks it’s like a magic trick. It’s an illusion so the angle of where the pad is it looks like you’ve crossed your hands, but you haven’t cause you’re hitting on the right side of the pad or high hat so the left-hand is free to move between the left side of the high hat or the snare or wherever it wants to go so don’t get into that whole kind of I’ve crossed my hands so I can’t lift up that left stick really to 90° angle to the ceiling especially when you’re playing Queen you wanna give it some alright 🤘🏼 Hope that all makes sense. Keep it going man you’re doing great. 🤘🏼🥁
Hi Paul, nice right hand/their Man left hand just make sure that cushion stroke comes to about an inch of the pad and also noticed the stick is quite wobbly in your left hand and where your fulcrum is your thumb and your first finger you haven’t got that that control that you have with the right hand so just check that. Try not to put too much energy onto the right hand. Remember you want that snare or the the left-hand to pop so that right hand is just to keep time you know so don’t put all your energy into that right hand. I hope that all makes sense but really start man. Chris Rea is fab 👊🏼🥁
Hey Tyler nice right hand check your left hand with the cushion stroke? You wanna bring that left hand closer to the drum so remember that rebound cushion tap and tap to the beginning I’ve noticed that with your left hand you’re bringing your stick into your forearm too much have a look at my video and see if you can see my hand how the stick comes at the back of the hand and then when I pull it in when I turn the wrist it’s it’s a slight movement not too much, but you’re right hand is great man. Nice track 👊🏼🥁
