CONTEST!!!
One never knows where the next great idea comes from. It all starts with experimentation. So I'm running 4 pre-compost bins that are all VERY different and I'd like some input on what to try next. SO... we're going to give away a prize to someone that participates in this community led pre-compost experiment. It's a prize you want to win... but I'm not spilling the beans until we see y'all participating! Just hit reply to each of the 4 comments below to add your input. Yes, responding to all 4 - maybe more than once - could help. :) Listen, it's all about us learning and getting better - in this case with pre-compost. So jump in - whether you're a newbie or you've been worm farming since 1849. We want your ideas! Let the games begin!

@Cherene Packard to be honest it’s just so so 🤷🏾‍♂️ You can still have anaerobic spots at the bottom depending on moisture and mass. To me it’s just best to get “down and dirty” using my hands!

@Cherene Packard Thanks so much! Very much appreciated 🙏🏾 Thanks for what you’re doing for the worm community!

I have been participating in the Thursday night Worm Business Builder Calls that @Cherene Packard has on the calendar. (And no, she did not ask me to run this ad!) If you're looking to make money with your worms, this is 4 hours a month that you're going to really want to be a part of! When you're out there on your own, starting a business, researching what works and what doesn't, finding options - it's really challenging and can get frustrating. Having even a small group of serious, like minded people going down the same path - well that's priceless! We toss out ideas, do research, recount successes and failures and it's just a game changer. If a worm business - big or small - is your goal, this is 4 hours a month you want to make part of your schedule! Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

Seems like an awesome opportunity but I can’t afford VIP status at this time. I wish you all much success and I hope to be able to join in 2027.
Bedding Contrast
I reset two of my bins. One was all SMS bedding and the other was all pre-compost. @Cherene Packard is correct, the pre-compost was definitely muckier - but not anaerobic at all. That's the only difference. They were all fed the same and at the same time. The worms in the PC were definitely fatter. They tried to escape more as well - not that the SMS worms were sluggards - but they were more active for sure. The biggest difference is that the cocoons were MUCH more visible and larger. Hard to tell if there's really that many more because they're pretty impossible to see in the SMS with other things in there that look like cocoons. But my bet is, there will be WAY more worms in the pre-compost bedding than the SMS - at least this round. Time will tell, but at this point, I'm not looking to do a lot of SMS experiments. I'll put it in the PC so I have the fungal microbes in the castings, but I'm not going to use it as a stand alone bedding in the near future unless a very interesting experiment is proposed.
