🇺🇸 English Expressions: Too Many Irons in the Fire 🔥
Hey everyone! 👋 Today’s expression is “too many irons in the fire.” 👉 It means having too many tasks or projects going on at the same time, which can make it hard to do any of them well. Basically, you’re spreading yourself too thin. Origin: This phrase comes from blacksmithing. When a blacksmith has multiple irons in the fire, each needs attention — if there are too many, some might get ruined. Over time, it became a metaphor for taking on more than one can handle. 🛠️ Examples: • He’s juggling three jobs and a side business — definitely too many irons in the fire. 😅 • Don’t take on another project; you’ve already got too many irons in the fire. 🔥 • She tried to learn piano, guitar, and drums at once — that’s too many irons in the fire. 🎵 Now it’s your turn! 💬 Drop your own sentence using “too many irons in the fire” below 👇 WE LEARN FROM EACH OTHER! 🤝

Before the winter break I felt completely worn out because apparently I had too many irons in the fire. Now I'm trying to get the most out of my lazy days.
DDM 1019 My Vocabulary picks
Hi guys 👋 Coach Shane always says that he doesn’t want us to intentionally memorize the glossary from the lessons, but each time I pick a few words that I find useful and put them in my notebook. They’re not always new words or phrases for me. Sometimes they’re just words I rarely use but would like to use more often. I thought I’d start sharing them here as it might add to your exposure to this vocabulary, too. The sentences are my my own creation 😊 1️⃣ coaster – a small mat for a bottle or glass. It’s a thingy which I never knew how to call in English, so here we are. 👉 I’m not one of those who are obsessed with coasters. I don’t have a single one at home. 2️⃣ leaf through – to quickly turn the pages of a book/magazine, reading only a little of it. The word I’ve been using instead is “flip through”, but “leaf through” makes more sense to me because in Russian we use a similar word. 👉 I love wandering around a bookstore staring at book covers and leafing through books. 3️⃣ all set – finished or not needing anything else. - Would you like a dessert? - No, thanks. I’m all set. 4️⃣ entrapment – being unfairly tempted or tricked into doing something wrong. 👉 We keep telling him that the National Lottery is an entrapment, but he won’t listen. 5️⃣ soothing – calm and relaxing. 👉 Her reading felt so soothing that the kids fell asleep instantly.

@Bruno Dart thank you for your two cents 😊 It's a perfect technique! 20 sentences seems a bit too much hahaha but I understand why you do that. P.S. I love the example you made with 'get carried away'. It took me relistening and rereading the same book several times to properly acquire this phrase 😁

Let's go everybody! This one is easy. If you don’t get it I'll come with the explanation in a few hours. What do you call a guy who’s really loud? Mike.

Hello from Germany
Hi, my name is Ute, and I want to improve my English skills. I think everyone here wants that 😁 I’m from Germany, near Cologne. My goal is to understand people when they speak to me (my biggest issue is when they don’t speak very clearly) and to talk to others without overthinking every single word. Nice to meet you all!

✍️ Dictation Sunday ! 🎧 NEW CLASS! January 4th
Hey guys, here’s the idea! I decided to make another class. Instead of our regular chit-chat on Sundays, we’ll be doing Dictation Sunday! ✍️ 🎧 A NEW CLASS IS ON THE CALENDAR 👉 https://www.skool.com/lme/calendar?eid=20954353121c42b7a67d1b2178d308d7 The idea is to train our short-term memory. I’ll pick one of our ‘old’ DDM VIP or PIRF VIP assignments and read some paragraphs sentence by sentence. You’re supposed to write down what you hear and post your answers in the chatroom. Then we compare your answers with the original script. After that, one of you could read another paragraph, and the rest of us, including me, will try to catch it 👀. Since we are all from different countries and have different accents, this will also help improve our listening comprehension 🌎. Plus, by reading the assignment, we can focus on our pronunciation and learn some vocabulary so we can discuss it afterwards 💬. LISTEN TO IT 🎧 • WRITE IT ✏️ • MASTER IT 🚀
