Why choosing the wrong community platform costs more than money
Bevy acquired CMX in 2019. But did it truly acquire its most valuable asset? The CMX Slack community currently has 8,539 members and appears to be using Slack’s free plan. That creates an interesting problem. Slack’s free plan only makes the most recent 90 days of messages searchable. Content older than one year can eventually be permanently deleted. Years of conversations between thousands of community professionals are therefore either inaccessible or at risk of disappearing. To unlock the complete message history, Bevy would need to upgrade the entire CMX workspace to Slack Pro. Slack Pro currently costs $7.25 per active member per month when billed annually, or $8.75 when billed monthly. If all 8,539 members were active, Bevy could theoretically pay: $742,893 per year with annual billing $896,595 per year with monthly billing Bevy would be responsible for that bill because it operates CMX. However, Slack only charges for active members, generally those who have used the workspace within the last 28 days. The actual cost would therefore depend on how many CMX members are still active. Even with only 3,000 active members, preserving the community’s complete history would cost approximately $261,000 per year. But the bigger cost is not the software bill. It is the loss of collective intelligence. The CMX community has spent years producing conversations, answers, introductions, recommendations, lessons, frameworks, and industry knowledge. When that knowledge lives inside a platform with limited history, it cannot compound. Members repeat questions that have already been answered. New members cannot learn from older discussions. Valuable insights disappear from search. The community continues creating knowledge, but the platform prevents it from becoming a permanent asset. This is not necessarily a criticism of Slack. Slack was primarily built for team communication, not for preserving the long term intelligence of a large professional community.

We’re hiring a Collective Intelligence Analyst
This is a unique External Problem Solving collaboration within our Community Funded Research initiative, focused on the Community Industry. It’s fully remote, and we don’t care when or where you work, as long as you work when your brain works best. The workload is up to 4 hours per day because we know what cognitive overload from too much information and data feels like, as well as the emerging phenomenon of AI brain fry. Take exceptionally good care of your brain and keep it sharp as a razor. We believe protecting your mental energy is part of doing great work, not something you do after work. That’s also why we care about results, not hours. We don’t care whether you do the work yourself or use a team of AI agents. If you find a quantum hack and solve in 30 minutes what others would spend a week doing, you won’t be penalised for it. We care about quality, accuracy and usefulness. You remain responsible for the output, and the only thing we don’t tolerate is AI slop. GET PAID $2,000 PER MONTH TO HACK THE OLD SYSTEM WITH US We’re not hiring you to simply maintain what already exists. We’re looking for someone who wants to help us hack the old way of organising knowledge, talent and intelligence in the Community Industry. We’re building an open community where thousands of conversations, ideas, people, opportunities and signals are constantly being generated. The challenge is turning this chaos into structured collective intelligence that becomes more valuable over time. Your job is to help us find better, faster and smarter ways to solve this problem. You’ll help us continuously improve how we capture, organise, connect and extract value from what our members contribute. This includes: 1) Helping develop the 5 Levels of Community Investment Mastery by filtering through discussions created by our amazing members, identifying the valuable insights and hidden gems, and placing them into the right sections and subpages of the structure.

What the top 100 skool communities actually earn
I was bored, so I analyzed the MRR of the top 100 communities on the Skool leaderboard. Together, they generate: 💰 Total MRR: $11,600,119 📈 Estimated annual revenue: $139,201,428 👥 Average MRR per community: $116,001 🎯 Median MRR per community: $74,311 The average looks impressive, but it does not tell the full story. A few huge communities pull that number up. The median is more useful because it shows what the community in the middle of this leaderboard earns. THE TOP THREE Rank 1: $1,033,202 MRR Rank 2: $768,889 MRR Rank 3: $441,757 MRR Combined MRR: $2,243,848 Average MRR: $747,949 The top three generate around 19 percent of the total revenue across all 100 communities. THE LAST THREE Rank 98: $50,082 MRR Rank 99: $50,036 MRR Rank 100: $49,898 MRR Combined MRR: $150,016 Average MRR: $50,005 Even the bottom of the top 100 generates around $50,000 per month. That does not mean the average Skool community makes $50,000. It means that getting into the top 100 requires serious revenue. REVENUE BY CATEGORY 💵 Money 61 communities Total MRR: $7,576,215 Average MRR: $124,200 Median MRR: $72,498 💻 Tech 24 communities Total MRR: $2,654,216 Average MRR: $110,592 Median MRR: $95,128 🏥 Health 4 communities Total MRR: $587,078 Average MRR: $146,770 Median MRR: $119,489 🧠 Self improvement 7 communities Total MRR: $474,012 Average MRR: $67,716 Median MRR: $62,310 🎨 Hobbies 2 communities Total MRR: $128,454 Average MRR: $64,227 🙏 Spirituality 1 community MRR: $123,268 ❤️ Relationships 1 community MRR: $56,876 WHAT CAN WE ACTUALLY LEARN FROM THIS? Money is the largest category by far, but Tech has the stronger reliable median. Health has the highest average, but four communities are not enough to prove that Health is the best category. The biggest lesson is not to chase a category just because its average revenue looks high. Category creates opportunity. The offer, pricing, customer acquisition, and retention determine whether that opportunity turns into revenue.

Hi, Petr is the name 👋
I have spent a solid amount of time in the High-ticket space, from closing to CSM, and here in Skool, I run a Community centred around the Beautiful region of the Balkans, working remotely for the last 3 years. Traveling there, moving there long-term, buying property, starting a business, or whatever else someone's heart desires, I enjoy martial arts, have done plenty of Wrestling and BJJ in a ground-game-focused MMA gym in Prague, and plenty of Boxing as well. I love real estate over cars, am a sucker for nice views, and, of course, with all my heart, love the Balkan countries like Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro & Albania. Here are a few photos from my most recent Visit to Dubrovnik.
