UFOs and other creative projects
I've been thinking about our UFOs again… I have plenty of them, although in my case some are simply part of the way I work — ideas get explored, samples get made, projects change direction and sometimes something new comes along before the last thing is finished! But I've been wondering whether we could get a little more creative control over the chaos — without turning our sewing into another job. So I'm playing with an idea, and I'd love a little help from my Studio Corner people. Imagine you pull out a project you haven't seen for six months (or six years!). What would you really like to find tucked in there with it? What would help you remember where you were up to, what you needed, and — perhaps most importantly — get you excited about deciding where to next? It doesn't necessarily have to mean finishing it as originally planned. Maybe it needs a new direction altogether! I'm curious — what would actually help you?

I recently received fabric and UFOs from the husband of a quilter (his wife died three years ago). She had fabric for a children's quilt in a ziplock bags. The pattern was the same for all of them. She had little slips of paper in each bag with one word on each piece of paper-- border, backing, binding---for what was still needed for that quilt. This made it so simple for me--I knew exactly what I needed to get to finish the quilt. Other UFOs, much larger quilts, were in their own container with the fabric and the pattern. It would have been helpful to know what she planned for borders and binding (backing is pretty obvious, it is the largest of the individual fabrics) but I know I can figure it out.
Quilted a quilt top hand-pieced ca 1910
My friend Barbara turned 90 on September 7th. She was given a quilt top by her sister that was hand-pieced by her grandmother, ca 1910. She allowed me the privilege and honor of quilting it. I added a small border of tiny blue gingham then added the other border which is the same as the backing. I gave it to her at a surprise birthday party. Pictures are attached.

Mother, Grandmother, Friend, and I'm retired. I mostly make baby quilts for a pro-life organization and lap quilts for Holocaust survivors and elderly, both in Israel. I make lap quilts for some special 90+ year old friends of mine. My biggest accomplishment is a Minecraft quilt designed by my Grandson.
