What to Expect
Welp here we are. An online pottery class and community is a bit difficult to explain but I'm going to try and explain my dreams for what this looks like and I would love your input. It all breaks down into 3 things: Instruction, Inspiration, and Community. First, I love teaching ceramics. I think I might enjoy teaching more than I enjoy making at times, and I really want to create a space where instruction is natural and actually helpful. My assumption is that if you are here, you are in one of two groups: You work with clay at home and are missing out on some more personal teaching and interactions, or you might be working in a community studio but want to supplement that time with some more instruction and feedback. My hope is to provide that instruction in a way that is scalable for all skill levels. I'll be on here every day answering questions as quickly as I can, and even providing some videos to help you accomplish what you are hoping to. Second, I don't want to bore you or try and convince you to make projects you don't want. My hope is that this space lights a fire in you that drives you to create beautiful things. So I will be showing you all kinds of work that hopefully sparks some creativity for you and gets you making your best stuff. And lastly, I want participants. I could have just posted all of this stuff to Youtube and checked out, but I genuinely want to know you and your art. I want you to become friends with the people that you meet on here and help each other. I want this to be a place that you can go and feel like you have people that support you and care for you. TLDR: I hope you enjoy this space. I hope its informative and helpful, I hope it drives you to create great things, and I hope you feel like you are part of a community. So I want to know- What do you want out of this? What are your hopes? Your goals?

Great synopsis, Trey! As a member in a community studio, I so enjoy learning from others and a place of trying to connection. This should be a great support to all potters- thanks for putting this in motion. Each person has unique “tricks” and ways of making, so I’m most eager to see how you tackle projects that I find challenging. Bring on the oil jar/soap dispenser throwing ideas! 😆

Anything you can show would help!
What would you like to learn?
I have a boatload of content to share with you, but what I really want to know is how I can help you best. What techniques or skills would you like to learn?

Oil dispensers thrown on the wheel are one of my goals. But I need help! Not the most confident nor experienced thrower, so all the tips and tricks!
Welcome to Clay with Trey!
First off, thank you for being here! My hope is to help you grow as an artist, no matter what level you’re at. Introduce yourself here so we can all get to know each other, and so I can start to custom tailor the content just for you! Tell us a little about yourself and the type of art you make (or want to make).

Hey there! I took my first pottery class almost 2 years ago, and am now a member at a community studio. It’s provided a much needed creative outlet, as well as community. You know when you find “your people”- yep! That’s what it is for me! Enjoy advice and knowledge from all the friendly potters!
