Monthly Theme Introduction - January 2026
UPDATE: MY PROCESS VIDEOS and graphics added The theme will change monthly, but the spirit stays the same: gentle creativity, low pressure, and meaningful making. JANUARY'S THEME: Slow Beginnings. This month is about easing in—not starting over, not fixing anything, not racing toward goals. Just returning to your hands, your materials, and yourself at a pace that feels kind. There is no right way to participate. There is no expectation to finish anything. Showing up gently counts. As you move through January, let this question sit with you: What feels possible right now? You’ll find a few optional project ideas, colors, and invitations below. Take what fits. Leave the rest. JANUARY'S PROJECTS: Slow, Simple, Soft These are suggestions, not assignments. They’re meant to help you begin without pressure. Project Ideas - A scrap warm-up quilt block (no measuring, no rules) - A single junk journal page titled “What I’m Carrying In” - A small slow-stitched fabric square with one word or symbol - Sorting scraps and choosing just one to work with Optional Color Inspiration - Oatmeal - Soft gray - Winter white - Faded denim (Colors are here to inspire—not restrict. Use what you have.) JANUARY'S SELF-CARE SALAD: A simple, grounding reset you can make in minutes: - Spinach - Apple slices - Walnuts - Dried cranberries - Olive oil + fresh lemon + pinch of salt Think of this as nourishment, not a rule—just like our making WAYS TO PARTICIPATE THIS MONTH These small actions help keep the community warm and help you earn points—no pressure to do them all. Choose one or two: - 📸 Share a photo of your current creative space (mess welcome) - ✍️ Post a sentence or two about how you’re beginning this year creatively - 💬 Leave encouragement on at least 2 member posts - 🧵 Share one small thing you’re working on—or thinking about working on 🌿 Gentle Reminder Each month will bring a new theme, new inspiration, and new ways to engage—but always with the same cozy rhythm.

@Caroline Walmsley I’m so glad the cozy club feels that way to you. This is exactly the kind of slow, thoughtful making (and sharing) that gives the community its heart.

@Meg Geritz I think I'm going to enjoy it a lot.
Using Rescued Home Decor Fabric Samples
I love it when I can find a Fabric sample book. My husband takes it apart for me, and I end up with lots of fabric swatches/samples of all sizes, textures, etc.

Don’t Leave This on the Table
Our Community Classroom is quietly growing—more lessons, more ideas, more ways to learn and stretch your skills. And I just want to say this gently: don’t leave such a valuable learning tool sitting unused. You don’t have to watch everything. You don’t have to be “caught up.” You don’t even have to be in a season of high energy. But even choosing one video, one lesson, or one new idea can spark momentum again. The classroom is here to: - Help you learn at your own pace - Give you fresh inspiration when you feel stuck - Support growth without pressure or comparison - Think of it like a well-set table. You don’t have to eat everything—but it’s there to nourish you when you’re ready. So this week, maybe: - Browse for 5 minutes - Pick one thing that catches your eye - Let curiosity lead instead of obligation - This space was built for you. Make yourself at home.

@Valorie Rossi I was wondering if anyone else noticed my crazy hours. With ongoing back problems, I nap more than sleep at night. LOL So in between, I love coming here.

@Ruth Bentley No, healing from the neck surgery has been going, really well. But I still have my lower back issue that I can't address until I'm completely healed from the first surgery. So probably looking at another back surgery in late spring. Thanks for asking.
A New Year, Shared
As we step into a brand-new year, I find myself grateful— not in a loud, confetti way, but in the soft, steady way that comes from knowing I’m not creating alone. You— with your scraps and stitches, your paper piles and half-finished dreams, your brave beginnings and tender tries— you are the gift I didn’t know I was building toward. I promise to keep this space warm. A place that feels like home, where the door is always open, and nothing has to be perfect to belong. I promise to tend it gently— to make room for rest, for encouragement, for sharing what we have instead of measuring what we lack. Here, generosity matters, so does patience, so does laughter when things don’t go as planned. May this be a refuge from the noise and the rush, a place to lay down the weight of everyday living and pick up thread, paper, color, and hope. As we enter this new year together, may we create freely, cheer each other on generously, and remember—again and again— that making side by side is one of the coziest things we can do. I’m so thankful you’re here. Let’s build something beautiful—together.
