New to NIL? BEST way to get started
I recently made a video presentation for a mother and her son, helping them get started with their NIL Journey I wanted to share a summary of the content with the group. โ€ฆ. Important Information: 1. The Student-Athlete is a Freshman Menโ€™s Basketball player for a Division I School 2. He is reserved / an introvert (Like many of us :) โ€ฆ. Step 1: Connect with the schoolโ€™s athletic department and see if they partner with companies like OpenDorse. These companies as the middle man between departments and companies, to help athletes land NIL Deals. Step 2: Set realistic expectations with athlete. Help them develop the right frame in their mind, on what โ€œsuccessโ€ will look like. For 98% of athletes, it WONT be Company A calling to offer 100K NIL Deal For 98% of us, it will be the freelancer mentality. Hustle for opportunities. Hustle for work. Build a network. Provide free value. Provide more free valueโ€ฆ.then more free value. Step 3: Build an attractive brand on social media Reach out to local Non-Profits and ask if you can partner with them to promote their goals / initiatives / events. For example: The local special olympics community has a big event in a few months. You reach out and ask if you can help promote the event through your social media accounts. You help local Non-Profits!!! Which is the #1 reward. You promote their mission You give to the community You build an attractive personal brand Step 4: Do it again Step 5: Do it again Step 6: Do it again Step whenever: Then eventually, after the right degree of rewarding work, you have built a GREAT book of business that companies will be attracted to This book of business, and your willingness to provide value, for free, will open up a TONNNNNN of NIL opportunities. To Summarize: Provide value for free Build an attractive brand on social media Do it again Watch how your NIL success compounds

@Michelle Sanderson it will be a great start! And, will give the athlete reps
5-in-5 Rule
5-in-5 Rule The NCAA is considering a new rule change that would impact the eligibility of all college athletes. In summary, each athlete would have 5 years of eligibility , in a 5 year span. The NCAA would then seek to eliminate redshirt years, and other waiverโ€™s of eligibility. This idea has gained a lot of traction, because a former junior college player, now QB at Vanderbilt, was granted a preliminary injunction, to have an additional year of eligibility. โ€ฆ. How does this impact you / your child? Assuming your son or daughter is younger than a senior in college, that means they get an additional year of eligibility.. From a NIL standpoint, thatโ€™s one more additional year of NIL opportunityโ€ฆwhich can be significant!! We will watch for how this ruling plays out during the summer. https://sports.yahoo.com/college-sports-leaders-mulling-5-in-5-rule-to-eliminate-redshirts-waivers-and-other-exemptions-211750014.html

NIL Stories?
Would love to create a good thought web of NIL stories. Anybody have any experiences, advice theyโ€™ve received, stories theyโ€™ve heard, that would benefit interested athletes or parents?!

Introduce Yourself!
Whats up guys! Very excited you are here. We believe this will be a great place for everyone to leverage the experience and wisdom of the group Would love to get to know each of you more!! Please share the following with us: 1. Name 2. What interest you most about NIL? What initial questions do you have? 3. What was your favorite Christmas gift growing up?!?! I'll start it off. My name is Lyle Wolf, I am a current basketball coach at a Division I School. Have been in College Athletics for 13 years now (3 different schools). I am excited to provide insights about NIL from the college lens, while exploring opportunities for athletes to make money in high school. These changes are new, and its very much a blue sea. Want to help each of you take advantage of this great opportunity!! I have help many athlete navigate their journey, and excited to do the same with you. In regards to my Christmas favorite gift growing up, I would say a bike!!! I remember forgetting about every other gift that morning, and immediately took the bike outside, and began riding / falling. Loved every bit of it at 7:30 AM in 30 degree weather.

@Michelle Sanderson Firstโ€ฆlove the boom box!! I bet there are a ton of fun memories there!! Great question about collectives. There is a lot to dive into, about the FUTURE of collectives. How collectives will operate, when your son is in college, may be different than how they function today. As of todayโ€ฆ. Collectives are independent organizations, that collect monies, to disperse to athletes for Name, Image and Likeness Majority of the money given to collectives are through Donors. There are other revenue streams that collectives are beginning to use to raise money. Typically, there is ONE collective, for the entire athletic department. Then when Donor A gives money, they can earmark that money for a certain sport. So each sport will have a collection of money (the collective) for NIL distribution. Majority of the time, the staff and collective, are on the same page about how much athlete A, athlete B, and athlete C receive. There are times, when โ€œagentsโ€ or athletes/parents, have a discussion/negotiation about certain NIL amounts, but its relative to the situation. Typically, its the staff that has more of the power, in regards to deciding how much each athlete receives. We will dive into more about how that may change in the future
