What is Your Favourite Mulch and Why?
My favourite mulch is wood chips but lately I have been using the grass bales after I grow my winter lettuce in them. What is your favourite mulch and why? Please share in the comments below as it’s mulching time all around the globe. Keep your soil warm in winter, cool in summer and not exposed to the elements. While building soil at the same time! Looking forward to hearing from you all and any mulching tips you might have! Happy Gardening Marty

my absolute favourite mulch is the banana pseudostem—cut in half and placed in contact with soil/aged mulch is ace. functions as a slow release fertiliser, reeeally maintains moisture while inviting many worms and other soil friends to break it down, fostering aeration and channeling moisture down. I cover them with woodchip, or whatever chop and drop is around to support that effect and really lock that moisture in.
Unwanted plants (Weeds)
Hello everyone. Gardens are great until the weeds set in, Grrrrr. There are natural ways to combat weeds like a weed tea. I would love to hear your methods of combatting unwanted plants, aka weeds.

I use woodchip, banana stems, and logs—I get as much biomass on the ground as I possibly can. i focus on shading them out usually using support plants; Mexican sunflower cuttings/pigeon pea seeds/castor bean/mulberry cuttings/leucena—whatever I have closest and always a dense and diverse mix.

Luke here, hey y’all 🌻 Growing in SEQ, Slacks Creek on a small suburban block. I’ve been growing food for 6 years, and our food forest is 2.5 years old. Last year I did my PDC in Costa Rica, and spent three weeks in Brazil learning syntropic agroforestry visiting many incredibly resilient, diverse, and abundant systems. feeling pumped to be here in this space with y’all, thank you, @Marty Ware for your time and energy ✨
