Unexpected delay.
Hi everyone. I apologize for the delay. Unfortunately my laptop died while I was finalizing this week’s lesson. It doesn’t power on anymore and I’m not really sure why. It had been giving me issues all week, and I suppose it just couldn't handle the programs anymore lol So I will have to postpone it one more day until I can get to my work computer tomorrow. I’m so sorry for the delays. Than you so much for your patience and support while I figure everything out ❤️
You are doing great! The fact you are keeping us informed shows how much you care. Plus, then resilience you are showing is inspiring. Thanks! Life happens to all of us!
Giving AI a role. Thoughts?
As a precursor to the next lesson, I’d like to see what everyone thinks about assigning a role to AI. For example: “You are a marketing expert in the fine jewelry industry.” A few weeks ago, I was watching a video by Anthropic on some of the best ways to write a prompt, and two of the developers couldn’t seem to agree on whether or not assigning a role was important. One was sure it helped. The other thought it made no difference. So I’m curious, have you tried assigning a role to AI? What has your experience been?
I’ve experimented with role assignments a lot, and honestly? I’ve seen mixed results. I’ve done sessions where I assigned a role upfront and others where I didn’t, and there wasn’t a huge difference in quality or outcome. What did surprise me is how inconsistent Chat can be even with the same prompt. I’ve taken an identical prompt, started a new chat, followed the same interaction flow, and still got completely different answers. That randomness makes it hard to say whether assigning a role truly helps or if the model just behaves differently depending on Chat's mood that day.
Happy Day After Labor Day!
I hope you all got the R&R you needed. I definitely did(and boy did I need it haha). I’ll admit, my schedule went a little off track (I honestly forgot it was Labor Day weekend until Friday 😅), but I’m ready to jump back in and get productive again :) Anyone have exciting projects they are picking up this week? How do you ease yourself back into the workweek after a long weekend?
Happy Day After Labor Day!
I'm starting a Trello Command Center 30 Day onboarding Project. I'll have a Board for ChatGPT Prompts & Strategy. I found an accountability partner and I'm ready to go!
So far so good! Here's a screenshot of my initial set up. Excited to fill it all in.
Change of Plans
Hello everyone! Please excuse my inconsistency in this early stage. I was about halfway done with the lesson on PACT, when I realized I needed to make clearer connections between the philosophy and the practical applications. So, I've put that one back in the planning folder and I'm actively working on the lesson for LUCID prompting. I want to make sure my lessons are clear, easy to understand, and provide value. The lesson for LUCID will hopefully release tomorrow, but I want to make sure everything is clear, so I may finalize it Friday. This one will give you a foundational check-list of elements that should be included in your prompts, while supporting your natural voice and prompting structure. I can't wait to get it out there for everyone! Happy prompting! :)
I think your pivot will provide us with so much more clarity early on! Thank you for being fluid and willing to be guided by your gut. I feel like you have a great group here and we are supporting you!
Writing with AI: Why outlines and drafts are still necessary.
Do you remember being taught to make an outline, then a first draft, then a final draft back in school? Funny enough, those rules still apply to AI — only now, we don’t have to do them all manually. Here’s my process for writing with ChatGPT: • First, I propose my idea and ask what it knows about the subject. I correct anything unclear or inaccurate. This helps me to organize the topics I will use and ensure ChatGPT is pulling accurate information. • Next, I have it create an outline: where each main idea goes and how the sections connect. • I tweak that outline so it reflects my key points in sequence with the proper tone. • Then I ask it to write a first draft. Since we outlined, it’s usually pretty well refined. • Finally, I edit manually and collaborate with ChatGPT to keep things clear, concise, and natural. The more I use AI, the more I realize all those old school frameworks still apply — but AI helps me turn ideas into a cohesive format much faster. How about you? Do you treat ChatGPT like a co-writer, or do you still find yourself struggling with creative writing and copy? Edit: I tried to find an example of this process, but I always start it with a discussion first, so there's too many interactions to screenshot. If anyone is interested, I can make a video going over a mock writing activity in real time :)
Writing with AI: Why outlines and drafts are still necessary.
This makes total sense. I'm finding I'm using conversation vs. a specific prompt at first as well. Once the process or outcome I'm trying to achieve is achieved, then I ask it for a prompt to remind it to do the same thing (so it's repeatable). The prompt it comes up with is very specific to the task I was having it do vs. a generic prompt. Another thing I do: if that chat session is going off the rails a bit, or if it's getting too long, I'll ask chat to summarize that chat in such a way that I can put it into a new chat and it remembers everything. I find it works pretty good.
@Katerina DiFatta Thank you! All of this is a learning process and I love interacting with others learning too. When we all share it helps us all move forward faster!
