"The Story I’m Telling Myself..."
Conflict often starts because we fill in the blanks. - Spouse is quiet ... "They are mad at me." - In-law makes a comment ... "They think I'm a bad parent." BrenĂŠ Brown gave us this golden phrase: "The story I'm telling myself is..." Before you react to the "Them" or the "We," check your story. Instead of attacking, try saying: "Hey, you've been really quiet tonight. The story I'm telling myself is that you're angry with me. Is that true, or are you just tired?" 9 times out of 10, they are just tired. Don't let a made-up story ruin your reality.

This is a link to a video that Brenè Brown does on empathy and I think everyone should see this. I had to watch it for a psychology class and saved it so I can watch it to remind myself how to show empathy because sometimes we forget how. https://youtu.be/1Evwgu369Jw?si=H4SWr0FjpMJkfMr1
Sunday Reflection: Grace in the Gap
Conflict reveals the gaps—the space between our expectations and reality. In that gap, we have a choice. We can fill it with blame, bitterness, and assumptions. Or, we can fill it with grace. Grace for our spouse, who is imperfect, just like us. Grace for ourselves when we don't handle things perfectly. Today, let's reflect on one area of conflict where you can choose to offer a little more grace.

That's one thing that is so hard for me to do is show grace when it's needed because I let my emotions control how I react. That is something I have been working really hard on.
What Are You NOT Doing?
We all have "To-Do" lists. Today, I want you to make a "To-Don't" list. To survive the final week before Christmas, some things have to go. - I am NOT baking from scratch. - I am NOT sending cards this year. - I am NOT cleaning the baseboards before guests arrive. Permission Granted: Lower the bar. Focus on connection, not perfection. Question: What is one thing you are officially crossing OFF your list today?

Christmas has been rough ever since my family and I got into it over my sister trying to take my daughter. It's always been a tradition to go to my grandparents house but ever since then I will not go because I can't be around my sister without her husband trying to start a fight at my grandpa's house. And every year it breaks my heart to break my grandpa's heart. But this year I've decided to give it all to God and let him show me the best way to handle it. I think that's the best decision for everyone involved. Merry Christmas to everyone!
The Great Debate: Christmas Music
We need a mid-week temperature check because things are getting serious out there in the shopping aisles! There are two types of people in this world: 1. Those who have been blasting Mariah Carey since November 1st. 2. Those who think Christmas music is illegal until 2 weeks before the day. Poll Time: What is the ONE Christmas song you could listen to on repeat, and what is the ONE song that makes you want to cover your ears? (I’m looking at you, "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer"…)

Don't Forget to Laugh
With all the talk of boundaries, healing, and schedules... don't forget the FUN. Laughter is one of the quickest ways to regulate a dysregulated nervous system. It releases endorphins and lowers cortisol. If your home has felt heavy lately—whether from marital strain, financial stress, or just the weight of the world—intentionally inject some lightness tonight. Watch a comedy. Play a board game. Look at old funny photos. Reminder: You don't have to wait for the "perfect time" to be happy. You can snatch a moment of joy right in the middle of the mess. Question: What is your favorite Christmas movie to watch for a laugh? (Elf? Home Alone? Christmas Vacation?) 🎄
