New song - feedback needed please!!
Hey all, I haven’t got into mastering as yet and there are a few changes I would like to make to this song. But I’d really appreciate your feedback on this mix and song that I’m working on my first client (friend). All comments / crits etc welcome!! I would love for this to sound it’s best!! And I can always delve into production again if needed!! Thanks soooo much in advance!! Ian

So I definitely don’t have as much experience mixing as others do here (which is why I’m here, to get feedback and to learn!) and I know you posted this quite a while ago so you’ve probably made changes already but before even reading the comments I thought “the vocal sounds extremely bright, almost like the high end/frequencies are too high” and upon reading the posts from others it sounds like that was correct. So fwiw if you haven’t made changes yet I second what everyone else has said. As a less experienced artist/engineer I still noticed the same thing. Fantastic song though! Also thanks for the learning opportunity and thank you to everyone else who commented (whether you see this or not) for helping me confirm what I was hearing :D

@Collin Tischner I agree with Jason here, in terms of the biggest detriments mix wise is that snare (or maybe it’s a rimshot) is extremely harsh. It either needs its volume brought down or some of the higher end EQd out. Like it kind of hurt my ears both on airpods and on external phone speakers. Otherwise though very creative sound and I love the vocals it’s got a super unique tone to it! It reminds me a bit of some of Kendrick Lamar’s sections where he is talking to “someone else” and pitches and doubles his voice to create the other speaker
