Tomato 🍅 varieties
There are so many varieties to choose from. What are peoples preferences? Perhaps you have some suggestions Cherry type : Sungold F1 is probably my preference followed by Gardeners Delight Slicing type : Streak Sandwich This year I am trying Amish paste for the first time but unfortunately did not buy any sungold seeds in time.

last year I grew Ailsa Craig - it used to be a favourite of my Dad's, didn't do very well; now I'm back my my own favourite, Alicante
microgreens
has anyone had any luck growing radishes as microgreens?
Party like it's 1940
I'm planning a food experiment next month - my partner and I are going to eat like it's 1940 - meals based on the typical rations for the day (might need some help re the points system). All fruit/veg will be British and seasonal, processed foods kept to a minimum - hoping I might lose a few lbs as well, haha. Has anyone else considered doing this?

@Allys Farmer looks like they want to ration everything in time - we've been in training, eating on 1942-style rations, lol

@Allys Farmer we got fed up of the cost of disposable bbq's, the bucket on is a metal bucket you fill with charcoal and cook on, we bought it in Home Bargains last summer for £7.
Speaking sense?
Hi all I’m our beautiful community sorry I’ve not posted a lot in the last week. We move next Tuesday from Suffolk to Somerset so lots happening. I was just going to let you know I’ve been ask to speak at the Harrogate Flower Show 2026. I’ve been ask to speak on the benefits of producing your own good quality peat free compost. Last year I had the pleasure of visiting a farm near Grimsby where they produce large amounts of compost from 3 ingredients they produce on the farm. I reckon 2026 is the last chance we will have access to buy the basics we need to produce food. 🙏💪👍❤️

When did compost bins become a thing?
As a child, I remember my dad always had a "pit" in the veggie patch. Every evening one of us took a bowl of vegetable peelings down the garden and threw the contents in the pit. When it got to about 4 inches from the top, he would cover it up with soil taken from a new "pit" and so it would go on. So, pit or compost bin, which is best?

Dad made compost trenches (bean trenches) back in the 70s/80s - it encouraged rats. I've used plastic compost bins, I put strong wire mesh underneath - it helps deter the rats but if they're determined, they can get in pretty much anywhere.

Hello, Lesley here, currently based in South Wales. I started growing vegetables in my teens and I've kept chickens on-and-off for about 30 years.
