I’m the COO of Cancer Services, a community-based nonprofit that provides support to cancer patients, survivors, and their families across the Triad. I oversee the organization’s day-to-day operations, including finance, HR, technology and systems, compliance, grants, and the infrastructure that allows our programs and services to operate effectively. A big part of my role is connecting the strategic vision of the organization with the practical systems and processes needed to make it happen. We’re a relatively small nonprofit, but our operations are complex. We’re managing client services, grants with different restrictions, fundraising, volunteers, finance, HR, and a growing service area, often across systems that don’t communicate well with each other. We’re also in the middle of improving our technology infrastructure and moving to a new CRM. The challenge is that I don’t have a large operations or IT team behind me. I’m often the person figuring out how the pieces fit together. The biggest impact would be AI that could connect information across our systems, automate repetitive processes, help us identify what needs attention, and turn our data into useful information for decision-making. For example, I’d love to have AI help with grant reporting and compliance, workflow automation, documentation, data cleanup, and identifying trends in our client and program data.
