Day 110 - 117
Damn, I’ve really been slacking on the posting, but I promise we haven’t forgotten the training part! Kairo’s orbit is so close to complete, but just needs a few final tweaks. Plus, she’s sped up with coming into heel position and gained a new obsession with putting herself into safe/middle. Amigo had a go at rally, which he hasn’t done for ages, and I discovered that he knew how to sidestep from sit but not stand. He’s a strange child. His backup in heel was beautiful though! In more exciting news, @Alex Lato was over in Guernsey this weekend! Unfortunately, Kairo wasn’t feeling it for the Friday Schutzhund Workshop and decided to become a cow and eat all the grass in the field. In some ways, that was beneficial though, as we were able to get tips on encouraging play when she has little to no motivation. Restraint and chase games seem to work best, but she clocks out if she doesn’t win quickly. Saturday was a seminar covering play, TBRR and confidence. It was super cool to see the demo at the end, where Alex was able to start from scratch and get a dog to backup with collar communication. On Sunday, Kairo had a 1-2-1 to stop her barking at birds and excited dogs. She picked up the collar communication surprisingly quickly and, by the end, was able to walk calmly past the ducks. I swear one of the ducks was a paid actor, bc it just followed us the entire time lol. Lots more to work on now!

Your Dog Training Story
Everyone has a back story as to how or why they wound up training their dogs, and in some cases, other peoples'! I'm curious to know your story: - what peaked your interest? Did you hava a difficult pet or were you inspired by something you saw? - who were your early dog training icons and how have you navigated your way to where you are now? - Who have you followed? Who are you still following? - Who or what makes you cringe when you look back? - What is the best piece of advice someone has given you or any words-of-wisdom that have always stuck with you? The best thing about this group is that there is never any judgement here - just honest sharing of experiences. Looking forward to hearing about your journey!!

I've grown up with dogs and I was forever making DIY agility set ups when I was younger. I think it was the love of horses too and jumping that I wanted the dogs to do it too πŸ˜‚ I was always with the animals I even had a lamb who I raised and he would come for walks with the dogs too. I think I properly took a bigger interest when I had to take Bella back to classes after she was attacked. She lost all her trust and didn't enjoy being outside. If a dog was coming she would have to wait for it to pass before she would carry on. I was 110% commited to getting her back to the lovely little dog that she was. It really amazed me how she went from being a complete untrusting mess around other dogs to being able to recall again in room full of dogs. Fast forward to getting phoenix and I did mega deep dive in to what I would need to be doing if we got a dog of her breed and be able to survive. Dobercademy has been a great place for information. I still feel as much as I put in to her I have still failed on parts that could be better and then I had the great idea of taking on the feral one, what could possibly go wrong. 😬 My life has been training ever since πŸ˜‚ I don't really follow many trainers as I find things conflicting. I follow you lot and that works for me lol I'm not sure I have any advice/words of wisdom. It would probably be "don't ask me because you will end u with another dog!" πŸ˜‚
Jumping through hoops...
In more ways than one. I've been on my tod all week juggling work, dogs, builders. Ideal time for my other half to go away for 3 daysπŸ‘Œnot sure who has caused me more of a headache but Its definitely not the dogs. They have been doing well considering. Igors stolen a few items from the builder bucket but he likes to be helpful. Light at the end of the tunnel now I think 🀞 Anyway we had some fun today and it got them out the house for a while. I actually think I broke Igor as i opened the boot when we got home and he didn't even attempt to get out lol I randomly started mucking about with hula hoops seeing if I could get them to jump though them. We did some searches and some other basic commands.I actually think Igor looked quite tidy doing his. Phoenix nearly takes me out doing "front" she's so overenthusiastic. Both nailed there searches and the weather has been glorious. Good day

@Holly Pearson no I haven't but might take a look now you have mentioned it. They got a negative with my dog walker there other day. She said it took her 15 mins to get them back at the field as they weren't listening 😬 so can I work on recall with distraction, however it's a little tricky as 9/10 they will come back at the field but Igor is never going to come back if he has a bird to chase. Phoenix knows better she was probably just not wanting to go home.

Working, food shop, decorating so it's done before the floors go down. Really rock n roll!
My brave little girl 🌸
Maggi May was very brave today with her operation, it went very well, didn’t bark at anyone, it’s left her very sad.

Aww bless her. Phoenix milked it for everything she could get when she was done. Hope she's feeling more herself soon.
