I had a full-circle moment today looking at my apps inside App Store Connect. In 2011, a member of my family was killed while playing basketball. There were witnesses, but they were too afraid to come forward.🤔 I kept thinking: What if people could report what they knew without revealing their identity? That question became iGot’em, an anonymous crime-reporting app. I had no technology background, but I crowdfunded US$10,000 in 30 days through friends, friends of friends, and people who believed in the idea. When I described the app to the developer, he explained that he only handled the coding. I would have to structure the app, fill it with content, and give him everything needed to make it work. So I did.🎉 Google was my teacher. Inspiration led me, and I figured out each step as I reached it. I later removed iGot’em from the App Store after it was acquired by another company. The acquisition itself wasn’t successful, but the brand remained unharmed. I have since developed iGot’em 2.0, although I haven’t returned it to the App Store because other pressing projects took priority. Years later, I paid US$1,500 each to have Pharmrootz and She’sallinme developed. Both took about a year, and I had to chase the developers through WhatsApp to get them completed. Now look at Water Signal Tracker.🚰 I built it myself with AI helping me cross the technical gap. It is currently waiting for Apple’s review, and when something needs fixing, I no longer feel completely dependent on a developer. The tools have changed tremendously, but this experience reminded me that the aptitude was already there. In 2011, I was describing the system, structuring the information, and directing the build before I even knew words like “product architecture.” AI didn’t give me the ability to think this way. It gave me a way to execute what was already in me. I’m sharing this for every non-techie sitting on an idea because they believe they must become a programmer or find thousands of dollars to hire one before they can build anything.
