Re-engagement
Hey everyone! Life, work, and grad-school prep pulled me away for a while, but I’ve still been developing a lot of these ideas in the background and I want to start re-engaging here consistently again. One thing I’ve been thinking about a lot lately is how modern people may increasingly belong to competing “Cultural Information Networks” instead of one shared national culture. Historically, most people inherited: - religion, - traditions, - values, - identity, - and worldview from local institutions and family/community networks. Now a huge percentage of that transmission is happening online through algorithms and digital tribes. I’m curious: Do you think it's more advantageous to be United under one robust culture or have multiple cultures negotiating survival amongst each other under a veil of a shared reality?

Multiple cultures should come together and navigate amongst each other! If we believe in a "universal" or "One" which contains all aspects of reality like Hegel, then it follows that each expression of human community is still participating in the over-arching reality. Different places, ideas, and people resonate with different places, people, and idea in large part based on their lived experience. In an age like ours with new technologies facilitating communication and networking, I see diversity of thought as essential to ensuring that the path-at-large follows the Truth of the world/Universe.... Deception can take over in periods of extreme upheaval and change, so while it may be tempting to say we should all unite under one shared understanding with this capacity, we have to be aware of our shortcomings and Discuss/negotiate the path forward.
