No one right way to do it
“There are no solutions, only tradeoffs.” -Thomas Sowell There’s no one right way to start your career in technology. At every point in this process, you’re trading time, energy, and money for the chance to start or improve your career. Some opt for helpdesk immediately. Benefit: fast. Cost: low paying ($20/h avg) Some opt for sys admin or network engineer. Benefit: pays better than helpdesk ($30/h avg). Cost: takes longer Some opt for a pure cybersecurity role like network security engineer. Benefit: pays the most ($90k+ annual). Cost: takes the longest. There is no one right answer. They’re all correct. Pick the one that makes sense for you, set a mission, and DONT STOP I shot for the moon and landed in 2019 in 5 months making $90k/y You can do it too Make a plan, put your head down, and get to work We have a chance for you to be ready by January if you start today Are you ALL IN on starting your career? Go book a call Zero to Hoodie Cybersecurity Bootcamp and let’s change your life in 2026 https://calendly.com/d/34z-295-sxz/30-minute-strategy-call Much love, Evan Lutz Founder, BowTiedCyber

Some people break into the field in 90 days, some take years to do the same. Consistency is key
Job postings
My company is hiring several positions in Texas. It’s a great company to work and grow with. They have benefits, 401k matching and they reimburse certs and you get bonuses and pay raises with them. https://www.linkedin.com/company/centre-technologies/

Introduction
Hi everyone. I am Albert, I joined this community because I want to learn and talk with similar people in my field. I just graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity. I have been studying for my Security+ and applying for help desk roles in the meantime. I previously interned at my university’s IT department and have done multiple labs (posted on my site albertdepierro.com) to practice the basics. I know the roadmap usually says Net+ before Sec+, but I found this community after I had already started with Security+. I plan to take the exam within the next week or so. As for what I want out of cybersecurity, right now, I really just want to land my first role and continue building experience. I haven’t chosen a specialization yet, but I know I don’t want to get stuck in a SOC long-term since those are often the lowest-paid roles. I’m very interested in Cloud Security, though I’m still figuring out whether I should start with Azure or AWS. I also feel like I have a lot of theory knowledge from school, which is why I’ve been doing labs and projects. I want to learn how to apply what I know in real-world situations. I know I still have a lot to learn, and I’m here to grow and connect with others.

best of luck with the Sec+ Albert! I don’t have much experience with cybersecurity, but from my knowledge the difference between Azure and AWS is mostly just the UI and jargon, and the operating systems you’re going to be focusing on in the field. My wife is in the medical field and I think this thought process is applicable to almost any career field, and that is real world experience is more valuable than anything else. Labs are great, videos are helpful, but understanding how to apply it to everyday situations can oftentimes be the real challenge!
Update
Hey everybody, hope you guys days are going well. I know I haven’t been posting on here as well as TikTok, had to take a step back, recently had some terrible/tragic news. But if I didn’t mention before not too sure but I got the PT school IT position and as far as the FT IT position the phone interview went well, currently waiting to hear back if I was selected to move forward in the next round. So fingers crossed, prayers lol, hopefully I get the full time position but if not I’ll take the part time (something is better than nothing). Anyway, I’m back and looking forward to continuing my journey into Cybersecurity.

Hope all turns out well. Although it might be chaotic, I hope it doesn’t stay that way for too long and you’re able to get all of your plans back on track
