The Start of a New Painting - Painting Gum Trees
Hey artists I thought I'd show you this painting that I started today. It's of some gum trees, based on some photos I took in Australia. I've just blocked in this painting so it's looking pretty loose. Next week I'll be adding details to this painting as it will be dry. We're actually painting this in Sam's Landscape Painting School, so I painted this live in front of my students this morning. If you'd like to see the replay and come and join me next week, where I'll be continuing to work on this painting, Click the link below to join Sam's Landscape Painting School. We'd love to have you there! https://www.skool.com/samuel-earp-online-art-school/about Happy painting, Sam

@Susan Buckley same here.... And I start with an awesome values block in and then loose my way during the refinement stage....and paint out all my darks and have to re establish them 🤭🤣
Winter Light, No Snow Required 🎨
Hey Artists Just dropped a new YouTube video and thought you'd enjoy this one. I painted a winter landscape: straw-coloured grasses lit up by that beautiful low winter light, warm beiges, soft crimsons, bare poplar trees, all set against dark, brooding mountains in the background. No snow, but honestly, the light in this scene is everything. I walk through exactly how I captured it and kept those warm tones feeling luminous against the cool darks. Hope it gets you inspired to paint something this week! Happy painting Sam 😊 P.S. This painting was actually done live inside Sam's Art School — if you want to follow along with the full step-by-step version replay plus weekly live painting classes, come and join us over there. 👉 https://www.skool.com/samuel-earp-online-art-school/about

Plein Air Painting - Painting Trees in my Local Area
Hey Artists Yesterday's plein air painting. It's so nice to just go out into my local area and paint these beautiful countryside scenes, especially trees. One of the things I'm trying to do now is go outdoors painting more regularly. I'm trying to see if I can get out once a week and just capture my local area on canvas, especially these countryside scenes, farmland, rolling green hills. I want to go out painting at least once a week to improve my plein air painting skills. The other cool thing is seeing the changing seasons here as it is now autumn in far north New Zealand where I live. I painted this artwork on an 8” by 10” linen panel in oils. Is anyone here in the group going outdoors to paint en plein air? Happy painting Sam P.S. If you'd like to learn how to paint trees like this so that you can just paint them outdoors or just improve your tree painting skills, then right now we have a tree painting course at my art school which has just started. You can catch up. Click the link to join. https://www.skool.com/samuel-earp-online-art-school/about
