๐ŸŽจ Have You Ever Heard of Lapis Lazuli? Me Eitherโ€ฆ But This Is Interesting (and It Once Cost More Than Gold!) ๐Ÿ’ฐ
Imagine walking into an art store today and seeing a tiny tube of blue paint worth more than your car ๐Ÿš— That was basically Ultramarine Blue during the Renaissance โ€” roughly 500 to 700 years ago. This wasnโ€™t just โ€œblue paint.โ€ This was luxury.Power.Status.The colour of the rich ๐Ÿ‘‘ The pigment came from a rare stone called Lapis lazuli, mined deep in the mountains of Afghanistan and shipped across dangerous trade routes into Europe. Artists then had to crush the stone into powder and carefully refine it into pigment by hand And the craziest part? The finest Ultramarine Blue was sometimes worth MORE than gold ๐Ÿฅ‡ Yepโ€ฆ painters were literally brushing wealth onto canvas. Thatโ€™s why wealthy patrons often demanded it in contracts: โ€œUse genuine ultramarine.โ€ Because they were paying a fortune for that brilliant glowing blue ๐Ÿ”ต Youโ€™ll notice many old Renaissance paintings show Virgin Mary wearing deep blue robes. That wasnโ€™t random. Blue became associated with holiness and importance partly because the pigment itself was so expensive It was basically medieval luxury branding ๐Ÿ˜„ Meanwhile todayโ€ฆ we squeeze ultramarine acrylic from a $10 tube while eating a meat pie in trackies ๐Ÿฅง๐Ÿ˜‚ Makes you appreciate modern paint a bit more hey. I sure do! Cheers Heff...

@Ben Heffernan my perspective / beliefs would be in a boardroom as the presenter of information it would support you to speak clearly with authority and have a more focused delivery - giving you an inner strength. Having a piece - tumbled stone in your pocket also works if wearing a pendant wasnโ€™t really appropriate. I work with energy and crystals so my beliefs are strong in relation to various crystals supporting certain situations. Not everyone is a believer and I respect that - but it definitely canโ€™t hurt to have some extra support during the human experience. Worth a try ๐Ÿคญ๐Ÿ˜‰

@Ben Heffernan also in my abstract artworks I use crystal essences in my paints to embed the energy / vibration of said crystal into the artwork. Adding to the energy of the space it hangs in ๐Ÿค—
๐ŸŽจ Why painting matters (quick one)
I got a really nice email this morning from someone who painted along with one of my tutorials. It reminded me of something I believe pretty strongly โ€” especially for beginners and returning artists. You donโ€™t learn painting by thinking about it. You learn by having a brush in your hand. Something else happens tooโ€ฆ time disappears. You stop thinking about everything else and youโ€™re just there, making marks, mixing colour, figuring things out. Before you know it 3 hours has passed by. Artists call it โ€œthe zoneโ€. It doesnโ€™t always show up โ€” but when it does, itโ€™s magic. If youโ€™ve been putting painting off lately, this is your nudge. Even 20 minutes counts. Cheers, Ben (Heff)

A good reminder itโ€™s long overdue to pick up a brush again - weโ€™ve been renovating so Iโ€™ve been painting walls not canvas for the last year ๐Ÿซฃ
๐ŸŽจ Welcome to H E F F ยท Creative! Introduce Yourself ๐Ÿ‘‹
Gโ€™day legends! Heff here โ€” truckie, tradie, and part-time artist finally getting the chance to create again after life and work got in the way for a while. This space is for anyone whoโ€™s ever felt that same pull to pick up the brush and have a crack at art again. I also run a YouTube channel โ€” Ben Heffernan Art โ€” where I share easy tutorials, time-lapses, and creative tips for beginners and returning artists. Drop a quick intro below ๐Ÿ‘‡โœ… Who you areโœ… What kind of art or creative stuff fires you upโœ… Bonus: Share a pic of your workspace or your latest project! Letโ€™s build a laid-back, inspiring corner where we can all learn, share, and have a laugh along the way.Cheers,โ€” Heff ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ”ฅ
