MAAT meter
Watched the mastering video. Noticed the MAAT meter. Is there an alternative you can think of? It seems a bit complicated..?šŸ¤“

Thank you for all the helpful comments! You know, before the 'metering' thing became an issue to mešŸ¤“I actually used Waves WLM Loudness Meter. I usually went for the long LUFS, until I realized I can monitor the short term LUFS as well. However why do we use -7 in MAAT and how do we set Youlean to -7 ( I too have the free version but never delved into it) Just wondering why -7? Cheers!

@Jaxon Reed Jaxon, sorry for the late reply... I have not been around often enough lately. My biggest challenge is capturing my ideas when they happen. I should always have pen and paper ready, or my phone to record phrases. The next one is to make a song fit into a genre. Most of the time my finished product is a hybrid of many genres and styles. I have been influenced by 60's and 70's but love the current music as well. Let's just say, perhaps that musical pot puree makes my music interesting for some folks. I don't write for anybody, I am not time challenged, I just move on. Sometimes I just write a song with a bass guitar in hand, other times an old nylon guitar, other times with my regular acoustic and/or electric guitar, often with my keyboard. Most of the times lyrics appear from that simple approach. Rarely do I write first the lyrics, then the music. When you play an instrument, all the troubles or the best things of the day come through. So the words follow. Sometimes I don't even make up words, just sounds, mimicking words. For me being German, that comes easy. These sounds will later become proper words. (In the late 60's I was busking in Ibiza singing a Bob Dylan song, just making up 'English' sounds.....šŸ˜‚. In the end, my challenge is getting 'professional' sounding tracks. I am still figuring that out, but this place here has helped me along nicely... thanks folks!šŸ•Šļø
Matching LUFS for album masters
Hey everyone, I'd seriously appreciate if any of you could give me some advice on matching loudness for different songs on the same album. I've been mixing and mastering an album for the first time for a close friend/collaborator and while the songs all sound solid individually, we've found that they have different perceived loudness. Here is a folder with the single version masters, but I'm about to do a remaster for the album that's dropping in a couple of weeks. Wanting to get everything nice and consistent without compromising quality at all. Any advice? Here are the LUF readings for the different tracks. I know they don't all have to be exactly the same, but I'd like to get them closer. Lovely Lies -10.3 Breakaway -9.7 Blessings -8.7 Steppin On Love -6 Lovely -7.6 Pressure -10.3 Trippin Alright -6.4 Wave Chasin -9 Outta Sight -8.1 https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/10Cxzt1yFKUwBUOW9BCvRpJfCR_huU0Qb

If you are using Studio One, they have a nice feature that is perfect for your purpose. Its called the Project Page. Maybe you can google it to read up about it, or just check out the DAW.
Radio-Ready Single - "Moonchild" Song Challenge
Hey there! Still not sure if this was a thing, if they decided to do a mixing challenge instead, or both but didn't have prices for both... still confused. The download link on the EVENTS site clearly said: "Download the guitar and vocal tracks for the production challenge". Whatever, started to make my own track with Lucy's enchanting "Moonchild" vocals. Don't think it's finished yet: still some things to do production wise (some weird notes on the bass f.e., cause I was puzzled by one of the guitar chords, snare sound is not the best one, etc.), still many things to do mixing wise, I guess. Not sure what genre it is, has some synthpop vibes in the second half. Having realized that there was no "production challenge" (or was there?) I finished the song without aiming for "perfect" or "masterpiece" but for a decent (sounding) track, cause I really liked what I had so far. Had some technical issues, didn't find the exact sounds I was looking for, whatever... let's call it a "demo version". Mostly used the provided "demo tracks" (vocals and guitar/organ), only added some of the additional vocals at the end (without much processing). ------ LONG STORY SHORT: If anybody wants to take a listen the song (it's quite different from Dane's version, but as I said: I really like it) HERE'S THE LINK TO MY MOONCHILD VERSION: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UzP4j_9qpjSkEc_BdOqW3GRxfIkY_mpG/view?usp=sharing ====== If somebody else made this "mistake" and produced their own version OR feels inspired to make his own song version now, after the show - feel free to add a link here in the comments! ;) =======

I take a moment to chime in... I think it is great that you took the initiative and used your own creativity within the framework and it sounds pretty good. I was very much intrigued by the original song itself, just vocals and guitar. The vocals are a wonderful morphing of Dido meets Grace Slick. From that point of view I would have taken the production towards that direction. As many may have noticed, the vox and guitar were already flowing nicely along without added instruments. So for my taste/opinion and and for what its worth: it is easy to overproduce such a song. I find that I overproduce pretty often my own songs and I end up scaling down/back. I am glad you did that mix, it opens the mind to all of us that meet here from time to time. Jake is Jake, but you are you!šŸ˜‰

New Computer Platform
Hello family. I just got done building my new monster machine. It's an AMD Ryzen9 5950X CPU, Asus X570-E gaming WiFi motherboard, 64 GB Corsair Vengeance 3200 MHz RAM, 2 1TB NVME Samsung 990 Evo SSD's, XFX RX 580 8GB GPU and Thermalright 750 watt power supply. It's running Windows 11 Pro, DaVinci Resolve and Reaper DAW. It's all mounted in a 4U rack mount chassis. So far I have about $1000 in this system in all. What are your thoughts on this system. What would you do differently and why?

Phillip, you patient man... you are a rare breed. I am obviously at awe 😱 since we were babbling about a new set up a while back. Excellent.
Windows 11 switch issues?
Hello, all. Just wondering what I need to look out for when switching from W 10 to 11. If anyone made the update, were there any complications in terms of your DAW, music files shortcuts etc? I have held back for the longest time to make the switch, but it looks like one has to do it at one point? Cheers!

@Marvin Buchmann That's what I am afraid of. I hate the experimenting, once a change has been made. I too have ASIO so I may run into the same issue.

@Andy Laird oops your thinking is off, I am afraid... I had some set back, I believe I reported that, maybe not. Anyway, I cleaned up my laptop to the best way possible and it still does what it needs to do, for now. Of course now I face the Windows upgrade. But let me thank all of the youngns that tried to give me good advice regarding the PC. I am sure I fall back on that when the time is right.
