Three Simple Steps to END Social Isolation for Individuals with disabilities
A recent report from the National Organization on Disability and the University of Michigan reveals that 40% of people with disabilities experience social isolation, directly impacting their employment prospects and quality of life. Through my work helping organizations implement inclusive hiring practices, I have identified four critical strategies that address this isolation: First, establish community partnerships that connect people with disabilities to professional networks before formal hiring begins. Second, implement structured onboarding programs that facilitate social integration from day one through mentorship and team connection. Third, create employee resource groups focused on disability inclusion, providing platforms for support and advocacy. Fourth, develop flexible work arrangements that accommodate diverse needs without creating separation from team dynamics. These strategies reduce isolation while improving retention and workplace satisfaction for employees with disabilities. For me, addressing social isolation is not simply about filling positions - it is about creating workplaces where every employee experiences true belonging and can contribute meaningfully.

Welcome! Introduce yourself + share a pic of your workspace 🎉
Hi everyone, My name is Kevin McShan, and I was born three months premature with cerebral palsy. At the age of 9, I was told that I wouldn't be able to walk without assistance due to my disability. After college, I faced rejection from 10 consecutive news directors who saw my disability as a liability. It took me 6 years after college to land my first paying job because employers couldn't look beyond my disability. I love talking about inclusion in the workforce because it's my belief that inclusion is the gateway to independence, and breaking down the barriers to access to employment for individuals with disabilities is essential and important. Through this community, I aim to provide helpful information and resources to start the conversation on how to best utilize and integrate individuals with disabilities into a thriving workforce. I believe that everyone's portrait of success is different, and through this community, I hope to provide a glimpse into what inclusion in the workforce really means. To kick things off, tell me why you joined skool and tell me what inclusion means to you
