Alternative voicing for G7
Following on from the guitar hang on Sunday, with Stephen and Tim, there was a question about voicing G7. Stephen didn't like 320001. I agree with him and suggested 323030. Prompted my comment to try to replace the note you don't like in the chord with the same note elsewhere. G7 contains the note F, so rather than playing the F note on the first string, (fret 1), replace it with the F note on the 4th string, ( fret 3)...and I must admit I like the D note on fret 3 of the second string. To my ear it gives a fuller sound. What do you think ?

@Tom Kenna I think I've got about a week and a half left. I fractured a couple of the small, less important bones in my left hand. It caused problems with rotation and flexion, but it's getting better. I'd like to say it happened parasailing in Thailand, but I tripped up the steps on my way into work. πŸ˜‚

A lot of this is theory I learned doing A level music. It's all a bit of a distant memory now, but I do understand intervals and cadence to a degree. I think it's made it a bit easier to work out what chords I need to play. I don't do lead guitar though, but I believe I'm a fairly competent singer.

I've found Caamp, but I can't name many songs. I've had a quick skim and like their sound. I've got By and By, and All The Debts I Owe and really like them.

@Tom Kenna I've always got Paul on my playlist. I play Me and Julio at open mics and I also enjoy Kodachrome, Love Me Like a Rock and Bernadette... and Late In The Evening... and Boy in the Bubble... I'm fact most tracks on the Graceland album... and Trailways Bus. Hearts and Bones... The Obvious Child... πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ All of them. πŸ˜‚

Hi. I've come here from Pro Gig Academy. My music history is long and convoluted. Having studies music at school I started out as a tuba player in a variety of bands and orchestras. I was about 17 when I decided to teach myself guitar. A bought a second hand Strat and started to learn basic chords. I had to sell that. Then I bought a 12 string acoustic. That got stolen after a year or so and then I kind of gave up until about 12 years ago. I bought a second hand Encore with the hopes of playing at an open mic my local held weekly. The pub closed down before I got a chance. My practicing stalled for a few years ago but I started again about 2 or 3 years ago. I've started doing open mics and now want to start busking and try to get gigs at elderly care and children's homes... Phew. Sorry for going on πŸ˜ƒ

@Tom Kenna There a a couple of open mics nearby. They need a bit of travelling for me though. One in my town but the rest are at least 40 mins away. I play oldies and newies. I like a bit of country but enjoy playing George Ezra, Ed Sheeran and a bit of James Blunt.
