Happy Thanksgiving
I’m always grateful about how gypsy jazz breathed new life into the guitar for me, it holds me accountable for having good technique What are you grateful for in the musical world?
New Lesson Video on YouTube!
Check it out here, I break down this classic lick from Django on Sweet Georgia Brown!

It’s a banger!
PRACTICE
So, usually I work on things for a long time before I start playing them live. Start slow, and work up to tempo. I started playing guitar, and gypsy jazz at the same time when I was 15, I luckily was around people like Tommy Davy, and Angelo Debarre enough to realize you need to practice things super slow at first. This is a conceptually simple lick, but it's fairly difficult to execute, it's from Jimmy Rosenbergs version of "Chega de Saudade", which is almost a note for note copy of the Rosenberg Trio version.. They are both amazing recordings, so I recommend checking them out.

Just sharing some music
Check out this video from me and fellow member @Nelsen Hutchison - we are using gypsy rest stroke picking, and rhythm guitar concepts we learned from Jimmy when we started to play Brazilian choro- Click the link to follow our group- and it might sound better there; I’m not sure how Skools compression is https://www.instagram.com/reel/DPl8LVXkYY7/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==

@Jimmy Grant so many freaking great songs- the repertoire for this music is deep and so much of it translates well to our guitars
A proper intro
Hello folks-my name is Kevan- I’m a good friend of Jimmy who’s played many gigs with him here in California where I live. I run my own combo in San Mateo California called Modern Jazz Hot Club. My goal with my combo is to create interesting arrangements of tunes that are not usually played in the Django Reinhardt zeitgeist, but still feel at home in the gypsy jazz environment Attached is a short video introduction of my group’s latest video with a link to our Instagram account if you’d like to hear more. Cheers and looking forward to hearing more of what everyone else here has to offer and is learning about. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DQXsoImEvoi/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==

@Bob Kelley im fortunate enough that there’s a little bit of community where I live in the San Francisco Bay Area Django was also the first jazz guitar player who really grabbed me, and I just didn’t really know anybody who played the style nor did. I know where I could find such an instrument until 2018, and then when my longtime mentor introduced me to the style, I went all in.
