Hello Everyone, This year we’ve got an amazing lineup: Paulus Schäfer, Tim Kliphuis, Sam Farthing, Eva Slongo, and Simon Planting will be joining us on bass for October 8–9. We’ve also made a few changes this year. We now have the entire Columbia hotel reserved for the camp, which means the late-night jam sessions are officially back on (and yes… that means jamming overnight). There’s also a new system for booking rooms. After you purchase tuition, you’ll receive a link where you can reserve your room directly. Rooms are limited — we only have 20 available, so if you’re planning to stay at the hotel, I recommend booking early. That said, staying at the hotel is not required to attend the camp. Hello Everyone! Today’s lesson is about something that confuses a lot of guitar players — even experienced ones. A while back at Camp Django, Sam Farthing and I were up front instructing a big group of players. One of the other teachers was listening in and casually said, “Try playing in D minor.” We both gave it a shot… and honestly, it didn’t sound very hip. It was harmonically “correct,” but it just didn’t groove or sparkle the way we wanted. That moment stuck with me because it highlights how vague (and sometimes misleading) this kind of language can be in music. Later that evening, I was sitting with a Wes Montgomery recording, transcribing a really cool lick. Suddenly it hit me — this was exactly what the other teacher had been trying to point us toward. The confusion made total sense. It’s incredibly easy to get mixed up with phrases like: - “Just play in D minor here” - “Play A minor over that C chord” - “Use the minor scale over the major changes” So I made a video to make more sense of this.

Hello Facebook! I’ve got 2 workshops coming up in Europe! The first one takes place in Valencia, Spain from May 1–3. We’ll be spending a few days diving into concerts, workshops, and jam sessions — basically the good stuff. I will be joining Eva Slongo, Romain Vuillemin Quartet, Matt Baker and Federico Nathan It’s going to be a beautiful few days of music, learning, and hanging out with fellow gypsy jazz lovers.
