Use a wide Aperture...
I've often commented, more is a Rant, that many teach "use a wide Aperture to blur the background" it's not false but only one third of the full truth. 1. Aperture 2. Lens Focal length 3. Distance With your variable focus length lens, a telephoto, focus on something say 30 feet away. Use your shortest focal length lens, widest Aperture. Take a photo. Without moving use a lounger focal length, focus on the same target. Take another picture. What do the photos tell you? Watch this video https://youtube.com/shorts/9AbC6gb2GSU?si=HOQh8IiUOhBQJUV4

I teach something similar in on of my classes. When a student has a kit lens but wants a portrait feel, I have them take one close zoomed out and another from further away zoomed in, in each trying to fill the subject in the same area of the frame. There’s usually an, “oh! That’s how that’s done” moment after. 😉

@Larry Kurfis my teaching journey has gone from “this is how it works” to “why don’t you try both and see?”. I actually quite enjoy the second one, far more of a guide to discovery than some deliverer of info.
Coffee Hour?
I have created a Coffee Hour each Tuesday at 1 PM Eastern time. It's an open agenda, meaning no agenda. is there a better day or time? Let me know.

Midday unfortunately doesn’t work for me with work still a major thing. I have midday Wednesdays open and weekends, other than that it’s pretty much evenings for now.
A few introductory images
Thanks for the add, folks. My name is Randy Fox and I currently reside in west central Florida (in the US). After decades of using Canon, I finally switched ecosystems to Olympus not quite 2 years ago. I will never look back. I am so impressed with my little OM-5 and small handful of lenses. I have a long way to go before I will be ‘comfortable’ with it, but it sure has been fun while trying. I have no specific genre that I shoot, but a few I refuse to shoot, including portraiture and/or wedding photography. (Kudos to those who CAN do that…I can’t bring myself to even try) But I do enjoy macro, still life (using light painting), nature/ wildlife photography and tinkering with the unique modes that OM has like Live Comp. So below are a few samples of what I have done with the OM-5. The first is a Live Comp of Floridas famous lightning displays. The second image is a macro that got a pretty decent amount of editing in LR and PS. The third images is a still life also using Live Comp mode. And the fourth image is my attempt at panning, taken at Ybor City, Florida. Again, thanks for the add and I look forward to seeing how others utilize their OM Systems cameras.

Aww, your clarinet image made me miss mine. Sadly, it was stolen from a storage unit when I temporarily put it there to deep clean my house. But, I can only hope it made its way to a kid far more talented ted than I.
Greetings!
Hello all, I’m Kenrick. I shoot with a few cameras but mostly a Canon 5D or a Sony A6700. Primarily a nature/landscape photographer but, I’ve been known to dabble in other areas (just not wedding). Looking forward to meeting more people here soon!
