Use a wide Aperture...
I've often commented, more is a Rant, that many teach "use a wide Aperture to blur the background" it's not false but only one third of the full truth. 1. Aperture 2. Lens Focal length 3. Distance With your variable focus length lens, a telephoto, focus on something say 30 feet away. Use your shortest focal length lens, widest Aperture. Take a photo. Without moving use a lounger focal length, focus on the same target. Take another picture. What do the photos tell you? Watch this video https://youtube.com/shorts/9AbC6gb2GSU?si=HOQh8IiUOhBQJUV4

@Kenrick Fischer I'm sure you used https://dofsimulator.net/en/ . Sometime in some online course, likely MattK I discovered it. I preferred proof rather than simulation. So a few years ago at Maplewoods campground near Johnson I was sitting and with my 14-150mm (2x crop) at 14mm f/4.0 I focused on another site power post, then zoomed about 75mm took another, then at 150mm @f/5.6 another. The photographic proof made a believer of me. That made question most pundits and most instructor's. I have a Blog, mostly to rant and remember. https://larrysphotography41.blogspot.com/2025/12/its-not-that-simple-why-there-are-no_081188034.html?m=1
Get Low with my monopod
I often photo shore and wading birds. A frequent location has a boardwalk and viewing platform. When photographing wadding birds I are shooting down to them. I would like to be shooting more at their level. Using my monopod and ball-head drop slot I can orient my camera. I can use my phone camera app to control the camera and get the shot. However I don't have enough arms and fingers do that. My thought is to use a bicycle cellphone holder on my monopod. The question is has anyone tried that? If so what mount did you use? I have loaded OI.Share app on my phone. The app has a Live view where I can control all but focal length.

Helping other photographers
Frequently we see questions similar to; What Camera settings, camera, lens, ... should I buy, use, upgrade and others. The short answer is not that helpful. We need to encourage them to ask better questions. My thoughts of "Asking Better Questions" is in my Blog post. Your thoughts?
