Off Leash Practice
We go in the golf course for about 10 minutes to work on him being off leash. He’s doing amazing around the geese! I do allow him to chase the geese but still want control around them. What a good boy! His distance down is something we’ve been working on.

@Aj Ryan thank you!!
Busy Trail!
I’m pet sitting this week and they live on a really busy trail. My dog on the left is used to watching people from our patio at home but I wasn’t sure how he’d do seeing so much activity in a new place. I do have to stay on top of it when the trail gets really busy in the mornings and evenings but I’m glad to see he’s not fired up about it. I’ve just been reinforcing noticing things and moving away from the fence line. This is day 7 of being here and he’s gotten used to the flow. I think all the work we’ve done on our patio has helped translate over.

I can’t believe I didn’t mention I’ve been using play as well to get get him used to the trail as background noise!
Back to Skool
I’ve been really inactive on here but want to get back to having a community during my training journey with Chiyo. We have some goals for this summer and feeling very excited to learn new methods to help us!

@Ave Paasuke we working on re-call some more as well as being able to pass dogs on trails without vocalizing. He’s progressed so much but winter always makes dogs more novel on outings again because it goes from seeing almost no one to being crazy busy in the summer!
New Podcast with Canine Paradigm
You might have already seen I was the guest on the Canine Paradigm this week. You can catch the whole episode here: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/episode-360-nick-bengers-coming-out-party/id1317578834?i=1000753830237 Have you already checked it out? I honestly didn't really feel like I did a great job but I'm glad to have just got it off my chest all the same.

@Nick Benger Oh! I also wanted to say… what pushed me to looking in to e-collar training was a trainer talking about how “no” can mean more freedom for the dog. I never thought about how limiting or even invasive training an alternative or incompatible behaviour could be in some circumstances. It’s so obvious yet it clicked when he said it (in a more eloquent way than me). We’ve had some scenarios in our lifestyle combined with my Aussie’s need for movement, lead to me getting an e-collar and investing in training. The biggest thing is that the pros far outweigh the cons. His quality of life will greatly increase.

@Nick Benger I feel the same! We have opportunities to go to amazing places in Canada where dogs can be off leash. I would hate to leave him behind. Even just in our friend’s and family circle we have private property that’s not fenced. I would love for him to have more freedom and a bigger world.
Day 7 Whistle Re-call
We went out and played in the snow at the park and practiced the whistle re-call. Each whistle led to a game of chasing me to get his squeaky ball and then I kicked it around for him in the snow. He finds that super fun! This is all we worked on today but it was a fun half hour of wandering around with random play sessions mixed in. 😁

I’m a professional dog walker looking for more accountability with my own dogs. I have a 3 year old Aussie and a 13 year old Chi X.
