Curved shears (sorry its a long post)
So I went to another location for the company I work for and I had asked the groomer there, who has been grooming since 1970, about tips on rounded heads since I get frustrated easy with that. She asked how I do mine so I explained the groomer that assisted with my training always had me use thinning shears to created the rounded head. 😅 well she was a little taken back by that and told me I should've using my curved shears more. To be honest the curves scare me because im terrified im going to cut too much off with them anyone have any advice when using them so I don't do that? Im not kidding when I say I almost never use them and I kind of feel like I was set up for failure now 😔

5 im a little anxious, I just became a certified groomer and next week is my first week without a mentor or anyone to guide me if I get stuck 😅
Does anyone else struggle with this?
I sometimes doubt myself as a groomer because I don’t own any sort of purebred dog. This probably sounds really silly. But I look at so many big dog groomer influencers or master groomers, and they have these beautiful standard poodles, bichons, kerry blue terriers, bouvier des flandres, and bedlington terriers. I love my little shih tzu mix, but sometimes I consider getting a second dog to try to help me elevate my grooming skill at home. To have a dog I could practice breed standard trims on, that I could do more experimental grooming with, and actually maintain their coat. For context, my own pup unfortunately has an enlarged heart, 6/6 grade murmur, and CHF, so I cannot risk putting her through unnecessary added stress. I try to keep her grooms minimal and comfortable.
