When you were a bather/ apprentice, what are somethings you wish you had been taught or understood better?
For me, I didn’t understand how important good prep was until I started doing haircuts. I also didn’t feel confident in recognizing signs of stress, fear, anxiety or making judgements on when to refer out.

Base Pay?
What do you think is a reasonable base pay for a groomer? If you receive 50% commission, and the smallest haircut is priced as $70 and smallest bath as $45 without add-ons. We also only do one-on-one appointments. I work 10 hour shifts.

@Mackenzie Nomad I’m sorry I feel like you are misunderstanding or I am misspeaking. 😭 My commission rate is 50%. That I am happy with. I am trying to determine a reasonable hourly base pay, like $15-$25/hour. Because if there are slow days in which I’m clocked in for 10 hours, but only 2-3 dogs come in, I think my 50% commission rate would be less than an hourly base pay. In that case, I am asking what is a reasonable hourly base pay.

Tips on Westie head
Hi guys, I did my first westie alone today! Overall I don’t think it’s terrible first attempt (the owner was also over the moon) but I need tips on getting that more textured, round head. Anyone know any good tips? (The body isn’t into a traditional Westie trim it’s a clip off body) Added a before pic too \/

There are texturizing sprays. I have seen groomers use a round pin brush to style the hair on the head, using sort of like a circular rubbing motion to fluff the hairs up and out.
